My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo! ***UPDATED AGAIN***

Yes boys and girls, although this is generally a import based forum.. I went ahead and started to build my own custom turbo setup. :6

I'm about 95% completed, and I am only missing a BAP (boost-a-pump, fmu whatever you guys call it).. here are some pics of the piping, and pics of the old dumb way of doing it, and pics of my new ball bearing turbo.

piping from under the car with side exhaust..

Attachment 21471

intercooler upfront..

turbo in...
Attachment 21474

and after finishing up all the piping, and connecting the turbo (i was going to run the turbo without it feeding the engine cause i need to get tuned.. (big no-no ive heard) but my oil feed line was stripped and I had no idea, which caused my engine to be sprayed with oil all over the place.. it was horrible so the exhaust shop built me a ugly coupler that connects the up-pipe to the down-pipe ... so i could drive the car back home.. later that night i said FUCKIT and put up the 200$ 60-1 turbo (the right one on the pic below) for sale, and went ahead and purchased the Comp Turbo built CT67R (gt30r internals/housing- http://compturbo.com/products/index....&product=CT467) and I have yet to bolt everything back on.. got new oil feed lines, and i will be using heater hose for the oil return.. (would it work?) .. 39# injectors, wg .6bar (8.75psi) .. greddy style BOV... any suggestions? let me know.

thanks.

Wow, post some more pics of the car, whole body shots :6

Very nice looking setup. Don't mind that most people on here drive imports, anything that you built with a turbo on it belongs here.

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

you want to keep your stock injectors when using an FMU. dont go with bigger injectors unless you have real engine management
you might wanna look at the flapper delete plates when installing them, they dont match the stock ports very well at all

red devil 12-26-2007 03:34 PM

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

these are stock castings, without the butterflies in them.. and i'm going to get custom tuned using a SCT Xcal II on the street, by a verywell known tuner.. so in other words I'll have a complete custom tune done for the car, the stock injectors are 19# .. not enough for 8psi.

HMTguy 12-26-2007 03:35 PM

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

Glad to hear you'll be using real engine management, get some ripper vids when it's done!

Racintweek 12-26-2007 03:39 PM

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

those steeda plates arent made from anything OEM and they arent cast they are machined......and poorly at that. after we built an inatke manifold for an S/C 06 we bought a set of those plates and in some places they were 5+ mm larger than the stock ports, so with out a full port and polish you are better off removing the flappers from the stock setup and sealing the plates with dowels and JB weld

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

wow man thats ------- sweet! props for having the testicular fortitude to do that to a semi new/expensive car. should move very well. what are your 1/4 or whp goals?

Racintweek 12-26-2007 03:43 PM

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

that car could easily be in the low 11's stock block, forged internals will be needed before he goes past 450-500whp

red devil 12-26-2007 03:45 PM

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

ive made it go 8.07 1/8th N/A (that's a mid-high 12 sec pas 1/4) .. I'm hoping for consistant mid 12's 1/4 ..

rwhp, hopefully above 450rwhp ... if not more boost should do it.

i'll take a look at the delete plates..

ive seen 469rwhp @ 8psi with a smaller turbo..

i'm not the cocky 1000rwhp goal type of dude, im realistic.

anything above 450rwhp, and im set. >:D

That is hot. Should set the boost to the nog seting and see what she can do >:D. 15psi or nothing :y

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

not yet, gotta have forged internals for anything above 11psi with this motor..

ive seen 13psi... 536rwhp...

but 13psi wouldnt hold for much long... even with a good tune.

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

:y yeah this thing has warranty ti'll 100k miles.. if my engine goes KABOOM i'm taking off all the turbo stuff and slap on the stock exhaust system.

hahaha, but lets hope for the best.. i'm going to pickup the boost-a-pump this evening. :6

i wouldnt turn the wick up too high w/out some sort of timing control, even if it is just one of those MSD boost retard things. its better than blowing an engine.

cant wait to see some numbers. my brother is planning a 3v head swap and then a single holset h1c on his 04 gt

That is looking awesome. Exciting when you get this close. How much time do you have into the build so far and how much of the fabrication are you doing yourself?

SCT Xcal II custom PCM flash tool, with a custom tune on the dyno using a IAT sensor (inlet air temp sensor) that pulls timing depending on the air temps..

max timing im running is 20* nothing more.

all of it, and ive been getting parts in slowly here and there.. making relationships with companies etc. i run a small mustang performance shop.. so i get deals on everything. after i'm finished with this i will be fabbing up the kits and selling them.. mine will be like the example..

its looking pretty tits.

nice work, fabing up all of the IC piping and exhaust must have been tricky but it looks like it turned out pretty good, cant wait to see numbers and 1/4 times :y

maybe i am a little confused, you said you are going to pick up an FMU, BAP as you call it, and tune w/ a flash tool??

Re: My 2006 S197 4.6L 3V Custom Turbo!

The XCalibrator 2 is a very advanced version of SCT's existing XCalibrator flash tool. To meet customer's requests and to include advanced technology, they have added more features to the XCalibrator 2 than any other flash tool on the market.

The Ford Mustang SCT Xcalibrator II is the only USB-based tool on the market, which will simplify customer use and save costs from "proprietary" cables that all other currently available flash tools and tuners on the market require for updating or reprogramming. Just as the original XCalibrator, the XCalibrator II can be programmed to work on any ODB-II equipped Ford Mustang from 1996-2005+.

The SCT X Calibrator 2 has both end user adjustment and high speed data logging capability. Using the keypad, you can make changes to your timing, fueling, fuel injector size, and dozens of other parameters. You can also monitor and data log all critical parameters by both connecting the XCalibrator 2 to your PC and using the SCT Live Link software, or by using the built-in LCD display.

The SCT X-Calibrator 2 also allows 2 analog inputs when data logging (such as Wideband O2s). Also, because everyone should know what those Check engine lights mean, the XCalibrator 2 allows you to read and understand these codes the minute they appear so you can get back to enjoying your favorite vehicle.
and some more. so i guess he can tune with it
