mwa ha ha...i turbo'd another EW4-- pics

ok, so ive gone and turbo another EW4. Im not sure why i like to do it but its funny turboing the first fuel injected honda engine. lol

Well I went ahead and basically used the old kit that was on my other 1st gen crx. considering i shouldn't need it if the b18 is to go in there eventually.

SETUP:
-custom turbo mani
-stock DSM 1g BOV
-DSM SMIC
-apexi afc
-basic A/F guage
-boost gauge
-oil cooler
-OP sensor oil feed T
-side pipe exhaust
-del sol duel bin radiator
-DSM five blade fan
-fmu.....grrrrrrr

Anyway, this kit uses the first turbo manifold i ever made...aka "old and busted". The kit also uses smic that sits inside the engine bay, however this time i fab'ed up a heatsheild in order to keep things a little cooler, as well as molding in a hood scoop and cowling the hood in order to let that air back out. Currently i left the stock 1g DSM BOV on untill i decide to the put on the hks ssq or the apexi duel chamber.Im not looking to boost over 8psi so ive left the intenall wastegate alone. Currently using an fmu for lack of an eaisier fuel mannagement(get back to that in a sec).OIl feed is just the basic pull from the oil pressure sensor, only thing a little different is that i put an oil cooler inline to the turbo in an effort to add a little insurance. one thing i did with the cooler is that the line that travels from the cooler to the turbo is actually arched, i did this so that when the engine is turned off all of the oil in the cooler will not flow into the oil pan, thus have a supply of oil stored for the turbo on the next start up.

oh and one more fun little detail, aside from mounting the del sol radiator (done last month in order to save time that the car would be parked), i had one hell of a time with the old manifold. Since the manifold was designed on one of my other 1st gen crx's I was under the inpression it would fit, well unfortunnatly the frame on this new crx is pushed in one inch on the front. so had to cut some of the cross member in order for the kit to fit. thus meaning more support must be added to the frame of the car, soooo..... i welded on a damn section of chromemolly tubing to the damn frame.hahaha

currently for some reason the car is idleing like crap!!!!!!!!!!!. idle is surging and when rev'ed sounds as if a cylinder is missing. so obvioulsy im going to get new plugs today. However here is a question for you

2. tuning-------ok so obviously the computer in this car is a reliac, its a PE7. so all you tuning guys...what the ---- can i do with that ecu, is it even chipable?

well heres an over shot of the car
Attachment 27611

heres the mani and turbo, it was a t25 but i swapped out the hot side for one witha little more kit to it
Attachment 27612

oil cooler, setup high on radiator to avoid road crap hitting it
Attachment 27613

intercooler and heatshield, as well as "ol trusty" DSM blow off
Attachment 27614

heres the chromemolly section i welded to the frame, travels the whole width of the chassis
Attachment 27615

Heres the dash, i still the back harness for the afc , A/F gauge was mounted in dash, tinted as well
Attachment 27616

Heres my exhaust, twin pipes coming right out behind the driver door, and the flow is actualy 50/50, i actually welded in a Y right after the oil pan.
Attachment 27617

ok yea just for proof.lol
Attachment 27618

Moleded in hood scoop(------- perfectly done to thank you very much), i also cowled the hood in an attemp to let the air flow better, might end up venting the intercooler section threw the wheel well with some luevers or something
Attachment 27619

since the battery is now in the back of the car(would have a pic but the optimus redtop is currently hidden under 4 subs, amp, cap, and two sets of 3.5 speakers. lol). I ended up running a heavier gauge wire instead of just useing amp wire for my power. So instead of just saying to hell with the old amp power wire, i ran it the the negative terminal on the battery and used it to attach to my rallysport full engine round kit. lol so the cars ground in the back , front and all to the engine.
Attachment 27620

old busted hotness lol, wtf am i do do?
Attachment 27621

still debating what injetors to use
Attachment 27622

And this is what happens to my shop i have to stop my project and work on customers cars threwout the day, my ---- gets trashed. lol

and none of this would have been possible without............

Looks solid! To post pics you have to upload them to a web server, sign up for www.photobucket.com. Then you just need to link to the images.

Dood, that's pretty damn sweet. I love abusing those old E-engines too! I always dreamed about turbocharging my 81 Civic sedan, but it has the CVCC head, so packaging would be a bitch. Keep beating those old E-engines! Yeah, B-engines make like eleventy billion times more power, but the cool factor of an old ass turbo engine is undeniable.

This car is the sweetest ---- EVAR!! Anyone with the balls to dig into the old third-gen Civic chassis and the E-motor like you is a hero in my book!

That manifold, does it really have 2 180 degree bends? If so, your turbo placement and packaging layout makes mine look super conventional. Way to go with the outside the box thinking!

BTW, you mentioned having done this to other EW4's? How much power are you able to make with this kind of equipment?

Re: mwa ha ha...i turbo'd another EW4-- pics

im not sure on teh power gain to tell you the truth.but My other was fast as ----. When the boost kicked in your head hit the seat . lol. With this setup in the car i took a vr6, full built b18 integra, and a couple other cars.

and yes the manifold has 2 180s. lol back in the day when i mad this manifold i didn't know how to clock a turbo, so i just fab'ed the manifold so i wouldn't jave to .

the mani worked great though, gave me enough lag to get the lgith as little car rolling. Damn thing would still burn tires all the way untill mid 4th gear though.

But with this setup the boost kick in at about 3200 rpms, which is damn near perfect considering the powerband on the cam kicks in a 3500. so the power comes on really well. this car is a rocket with the turbo on there.
