Default megaaquirt question

ok so im thinking about buying one of the kits unassembled (assembly is not a problem)
what does the kit come with and what do you need to go out and buy in order for it
to work. also what is it replacing in your stock setup.

they make it sound like youre replacing the whole ECU. not the case right?

The Megasquirt is supposed to be your entire engine control unit. I think some mundane tasks can be left to the stock ECU, like if it controls your transmission and/or dashboard, but I've got no idea what'd be involved if that were the case. It's supposed to be a complete standalone management system.

It comes with everything you need to build the ECU, but you have to supply sensors etc that are compatible with the MS. Sometimes stock will work, sometimes not.

ms adds in a few extra bits to change resistors and some small stuff for sensors, but megasquirt is more based on speed density than mass airflow

get the prebuilt loom with it. and a stim kit if you want to do it right. other than that, you need to read a lot on the ms forums/sites before you go much further.

you'll also need wideband. aem and innovate are the two to go for. innovate has more for the $$

It would probably help if you mentioned what MS you have. MegaSquirt I, II, what board revision, etc. Would you sell the harness separately? Very interested, but I already have a MSII v3.0.

pm'd you.

thanks everyone for the replies. i have been reading on the forums and no one had as basic a question as me. hahah.

i was just looking at all the cabling and stuff that you would have to buy to hook up a laptop or the stim. looking at the
diagram they made of what you need it seems like you need so much more than what their kit comes with.
