So far so good. Nice to see that you are making do with the tools that you have.

Your tack welds look a bit chunky overall but that is definately not a problem if the ---- works out on the first weld (causing having to break tacks and reweld always is a pain in the ***, especially when working with larger pieces).

I assume that you have everything covered, and know exactly what you are going to do with the collector. If you need some help, let me know.

I did the tacks without a helmet so I basically just closed my eyes and pushed the button, just enough to make the pipes stay in place. I'll add more tacks before I take the pipes apart for welding.
About the collector, I have to cut the one pipe that's a bit longer, and then fabricate something to close the center hole.
The collector itself will also be cut to the right length so it matches the pipes.

hmmm.. welding by brail - not smart. Invest $40 on an ebay auto-dark helmet.

where the 4 pipes meet on the collector, you're going to need to take a piece of plate, drill the 4 holes in it. What is left will be pieces you are going to chop up and use to fill it in. Going to be like a plus sign with curves, then the 4 angle pieces on the corner.

I'll draw a picture if you aren't following my lead.

We have 3 welding helmets at home, one auto-dark, I just didn't bother to fetch a helmet when just making quick tacks.
And about the collector, I already have that figured out
