looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please

was reading up on turbos over a year ago and have been busy the last year but I'm back and want to install a turbo kit as cheap as possible b/x this will not be for racing but just backup power if needed. If I recall some peopel said if i keep it under 5psi i would not have to change the fuel stuff liek injectors etc. I do recall I did have to change my ECU correct? I remember it would be a pain in the ass. direct m tot he right path please

If you just want 5 psi, run an FMU. You won't have to change your injectors or ecu.

But once you get a taste, you'll want more than 5 psi and an fmu is only asking for trouble then. Ideally you would get larger injectors (DSM 450's for the budget) and convert to OBD1 and run a chipped ecu.

thast the thing this ecu obd not sure how to go about it its been a while i forgot how too. FMU ok I do remmeber that but it only works when boosting correct? usually I drive normal to save fuel i get about 35mpg or more thats why I don't want boost until over 3k or 3500k rpm

An FMU will only increase your fuel pressure while boosting. If you don't boost, you car will run the same as it did before and get the same gas mileage.

Your car is OBD2, you need to get an OBD2->OBD1 conversion harness and run an OBD1 ecu, with larger injectors for the better setup.

An FMU by itself on your existing system will be fine for 5 psi though.

ok great FMU will do then but I do have to convert my OBD also. I will keep it 5psi or under, its more for back up power than I need at times but not to race. Now were is the cheapest place for a turbo kit? and i want to keep my A/c

No you don't need to do an OBD conversion, like I already stated.

Get the FMU and nothing else for management and you will be set.

The cheapest place for a turbo kit is the junkyard.

oh ok, I misunderstood that. b/c they use to tell me off the bat that was the first thing to do besides the FMU. Good to hear I don't have to worry about it. I saw a kit and I forgot the name of the place was in a magazine for 1500 is a bolt on turbo kit also came with intercooler. I'll have to get the name of the place to make sure its not a mickey mouse thanks for your assistance

It is most likely a mickey mouse with no management. You might be able to run it fine with the addition of an fmu.
