looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
was reading up on turbos over a year ago and have been busy the last year but I'm back and want to install a turbo kit as cheap as possible b/x this will not be for racing but just backup power if needed. If I recall some peopel said if i keep it under 5psi i would not have to change the fuel stuff liek injectors etc. I do recall I did have to change my ECU correct? I remember it would be a pain in the ass. direct m tot he right path please

Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
If you just want 5 psi, run an FMU. You won't have to change your injectors or ecu.
But once you get a taste, you'll want more than 5 psi and an fmu is only asking for trouble then. Ideally you would get larger injectors (DSM 450's for the budget) and convert to OBD1 and run a chipped ecu. |

thast the thing this ecu obd not sure how to go about it its been a while i forgot how too. FMU ok I do remmeber that but it only works when boosting correct? usually I drive normal to save fuel i get about 35mpg or more thats why I don't want boost until over 3k or 3500k rpm

Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
An FMU will only increase your fuel pressure while boosting. If you don't boost, you car will run the same as it did before and get the same gas mileage.
Your car is OBD2, you need to get an OBD2->OBD1 conversion harness and run an OBD1 ecu, with larger injectors for the better setup. An FMU by itself on your existing system will be fine for 5 psi though. |
Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
ok great FMU will do then but I do have to convert my OBD also. I will keep it 5psi or under, its more for back up power than I need at times but not to race. Now were is the cheapest place for a turbo kit? and i want to keep my A/c

Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
No you don't need to do an OBD conversion, like I already stated.
Get the FMU and nothing else for management and you will be set. The cheapest place for a turbo kit is the junkyard. |
Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
oh ok, I misunderstood that. b/c they use to tell me off the bat that was the first thing to do besides the FMU. Good to hear I don't have to worry about it. I saw a kit and I forgot the name of the place was in a magazine for 1500 is a bolt on turbo kit also came with intercooler. I'll have to get the name of the place to make sure its not a mickey mouse thanks for your assistance

Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
It is most likely a mickey mouse with no management. You might be able to run it fine with the addition of an fmu.

My advice. Read. Buy tools. Spend money. Build it.
If all of these are not your style by a greddy kit |

not really
If you do all the work yourself you will spend 1000's+ on tools alone like i said turbod16 is more the site for you this is a diy site |
Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
haha geeze chris, pushin him away hard off the bat. yes we are a diy site, yes most of us do, but not everyone does, most people jus sit around n try to buy others old setups. mani n dp combo, ic piping for 92-95 including ic n your set. slight modificiations needed of course. sit around n shop n im sure you can piece one together. or buy that kit n install it n call it a day. either way installing a turbo kit on a motor that aint made for it is still sorta doin it your self. wether u bought it complete or not. 5psi aint ----, you'll get bored fast. i went from 2psi jus to blow off lol, (yes i was a ricer) but as soon as i felt boost DING DING DING!!!!!! i wanted more, made a new kit, got dsm injectors, real bov, uber, 14psi daily n only a few cars kept up. it was great

Keep in mind if you run an FMU you will need a high pressure fuel pump. If you convert to OBDI you will also need to convert to a 2 wire IAC valve which means a different manifold.

Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
see thast the thing, I need this and that. Maybe i'll just forget about it and later on get a bigger engine for the car. I have a volvo t-5 and I really don't go boosting it hard . its very rare i kick it unless i need it quick. I'm more conservative due to gas prices and mileage. I know I won't be abusing it. but then again if I have to use 91 gas all the time then I might have to forget about it. I would be happy with 40-50 hp gain just to have it when i need it to move fast

Re: looking to gain 40-50 hp on my 96 civivc cx hatchback. assist me please
I really think you need to sit down and re-evaluate the situation at hand..
You need to read up ALOT more and figure out what the ---- you are doing. Dont post. just read. Then after a few months of lurking and reading you can then be allowed 1 post per day. If you dont follow those rules. I will ban you. |
