It will give you some random overshoot, but it won't increase the boost in each gear. That would happen if the wastegate couldn't flow enough, which is not dependent on this scenario.

All a grainger valve is- a ball and spring adjustable boost controller. Thats it. Once your boost pressure reaches the set level, the ball "pushes" from its seat and pressure travels to the wastegate. As apposed to the pressure slowly building up on the wastegate. The effect is that the boost pressure applied is not acting on said wastegate until the very last moment. Hince your turbo "spools" faster. (not exactly but thats the principle)....
i.e. any ball and spring manual boost controller will have the same effect. And there relatively cheap now.
