Whats involved with swapping an internally wastegated T3 to an externally wastegated turbo. I mean can the diaphragm simply be removed or is a new housing needed? Im planning to buy a T3 from Westcoast and I want to have the option to swap wastegates later if I need to.

 

just weld the gate shut. take off the diaphram and VIOLAH!!!! now you can use an external wastegate

 

Im only planning to run low boost (7psi) for now and I wasnt certain if an external wastegate was overkill. To me the internal setup sounds decent, am I wrong? BTW this is for a D16A6 with 2k miles on the rebuild.

 

External is good for 1 psi or 53psi.---- internal all together.

On the other hand, there is no problem with running a internal wastegate. I ran one with 10psi. No boost spike ever
