Look.
The thing is...
On the merc i run a given element.
At the current power levels it seems the design of it has become a flow hinderance.
So..got another couple of elements laying around the shop i´m gonna weld up tanks for and try out.
Which brings in another part of the equation, design of end tanks.
The ones i plan to fab this time out will be way more streamlined than the one in the car right now,and i´m asking what others have reached as far as similar results.
So..anyone else out there pushing 500 outta the huffer and have run into "walls" of some sort that COULD be related to the intercooler?
Starting to think that flow..is more important than cooling effect within given limits(or harder to achieve at least)

if you go tube and fin you will have better flow for those hp numbers, just the cooling effect will be less, thats why they are usually a lot bigger i/c's than bar and plate

Beware of the XSP intercoolers though!
I thought it was a myth but I just saw it today with my own eyes, it's incredible, the passes of these cheapo 129$ ebay intercoolers do POP OUT and they of course leak boost from the resulting cracks. Looks like the brazing of the passes is cheaply made and not controlled, making these intercoolers as disapointing as their other products.

now about something different, i have just installed my first vertical flow intercooler lately.

I love it.

Not only did it allow to make the SHORTEST POSSIBLE IC piping on a honda but for the same size, it has much more flow than it's horiz.flow counterpart. Apparently it has slightly less cooling efficiency for the same size but who cares, i live in Quebec. Not Texas! datalogging my intake temps did not allow to confirm any poor cooling. if anything, I measured air intake temps very close to ambient temps throughout the street tuning session so I'm sure it cools more than enough.

im thinking of going to one like that for the extra flow due to size constraints.
