Default IHI Hybrid?

Yeah so I've got two turbos right now. 1 is an IHI RHB5 vf28. It's in decent shape, little shaft play nothing to worry about.

I also have an IHI T3 turbo off of a turbo thunderbird w/ a 5sp. It's fairly shot, and in need of a rebuild bad. The compressor wheel is kinda shot too. Anyway...

I was looking at both and the center sections look very similar. 4bolt exhaust housing w/ two holding plates, and 6 bolts with tabs for the compressor side. Could I pull the compressor housing off and put it on the Subie RHB5? or would the wheel on the RHB5 be too small and not fit properly in the housing? They look very similar in size, and both have a staggered wheel. What I'm asking is could I pull off a hybrid with just a housing swap or does the entire wheel/housing need to be swapped? What do you guys think?

BTW what are the specs on the T3 from the thunderchicken? I thought the IHI's on them we're 48/60's? But I thought the 5spds had the 60/63? Or is that just with the SVOs? I'm not sure what the specs are exactly on it.

Default Re: IHI Hybrid?

the vf series from ihi is a fairly swappable set of turbos.... you can mix and match a bunch of ----, but to use the ihi t bird compressor wheel you would need to use the housing too.... i have swapped housings on these turbos before and it is not anything crucial.... just make sure that you have no interference issues with the compressor or exducer wheels.
