no, CB is just a book from the 1970's, aimed at 1970's technology & OEM requirements.
An OEM would never go to the complication & maintenance of adding another entire system that the engine is dependant on for survival in a mass production vehicle. It is far too easy to make more power by other methods. larger, and or more effecient engines.
If you doubt the power of water, or water/alcohol injection, you are severly mistaken in it's abilities. i find your lack of faith disturbing.
An OEM would never go to the complication & maintenance of adding another entire system that the engine is dependant on for survival in a mass production vehicle. It is far too easy to make more power by other methods. larger, and or more effecient engines.

I never doubted water injection. However, I blew my motor up within 5k miles when I ran it. Ive got nearly 15k on the new one now. Here's the facts:
My MX3: two years ago 17 psi of boost, 11 degrees total timing, 10.5:1 afr pump gas (HAD to drop it down until detonation went away, and still got detonation very rarely). 700cc water injection nozzle. 2.2 60', 13.05 @ 109.5 at 5900' elevation
last year... intercooled, 14 psi, 104 octane. 11:1 afr, 19 degrees timing. no water injection. 2.4 60' 13.2 @ 113.6.
Now running E85 and got some wrinkle walls, and 28 degrees timing, pulling harder than ever with NO detonation, ever. We shall see what the track results yield, especially on 17+ psi. To each his own, my car is more reliable than it ever has been and makes more power than it did. I feel with the higher octane the engine should last longer. Im perfectly comfortable having 400-425 hp with this car so I feel no need to change the setup from what it is now.
As far as the pathfinder is concerned, a crude (basic) water injection setup is likely in its future. With the higher compression it could benefit from dropped combustion temps, and with low boost levels it won't comprimise the engine significantly if the tank were to be low/empty. Plus after pulling apart my MX3 engine after burning something like 30 gallons of ---- through that water injection system, I must say the engine was remarkably clean inside
