HY35 vs. HE351CW
#11
I dont have the 351CW yet. Trying to determine interchangability before I go shopping. The little information I have found on the internet illudes to no specifics, just that the HY35 and HE351CW are very similar and the revisions are primarily related to a bit of a better flowing turbine housing and a slightly more effecient compressor (with the 90deg out-let vs. straight). No specifics like CHRA, turbine wheel, or turbine housing interchangability. Ill be very happy to hear any information you have with the end goal being to build a hybrid with the v-band turbine out-let of the 351 and the HY35 CHRA, turbine, and compressor housing.wheel. If its not possible thats cool Ill go another route, I just hate to ---- can the good parts of my HY35 because the turbine housing is cracked. Thanks for any information its much appreceated.
What do youy mean by CHRA?

The CHRA (center housing rotating assembly / bearing housing) is #40 in the pic. I thought about comparing pn#'s but the pdf service manuals I downloaded dont have them. Also I know its not uncommon for manufaturers to change pn#'s from model to model regardless of them being the same. They so this to track systemic failure from one model to another. Perhaps not the case here. Regardless, proving that the pn#'s for the HY35 CHRA and turbine and the HE351CW (05-07 automatic trucks?) are the same would solve this for me. If you have this information that would be great, thanks for the help. I would call a dealer but I can see them getting very annoyed at my odd questions and just haging up me....

The holset he351cw is introduced in the 2004.5 and up cummins. The 02 and 03 look the same as the he351cw with the 90 deg snout BUT the are just a HY35. Here are some info that i have gathered in my holset research..........
-Hy35, flows approx 57 lbs/min
-Hx35, flows approx 60.85 lbs/min
-He351cw (Spools faster than the hx35, but makes the same power) flows approx 60.85 lbs/min
-Hx40, flows approx 70.10 lbs/min
-Hx45 (can't find the flow at this time)
-Hx50/52 or 55. flows approx 99.20 lbs/min
-Hx60 (Notice I didn't say HT60), flows approx 125.66 lbs/min
-Hx82, flows approx 198.42 lbs/min
-Hy35, flows approx 57 lbs/min
-Hx35, flows approx 60.85 lbs/min
-He351cw (Spools faster than the hx35, but makes the same power) flows approx 60.85 lbs/min
-Hx40, flows approx 70.10 lbs/min
-Hx45 (can't find the flow at this time)
-Hx50/52 or 55. flows approx 99.20 lbs/min
-Hx60 (Notice I didn't say HT60), flows approx 125.66 lbs/min
-Hx82, flows approx 198.42 lbs/min

I dont think so. I have one now and Ill messure but from what information I can gather, and just from eye-balling it, it does look to be if not the same, very simalar to the HY/HE35 compressor wheel. When I get around to tearing it apart Ill messure and get some pics up as well.
