Default Howling from turbo

Haven't posted on here for a while, but in any case, here's my prob.

Just recently did a HMT kit on my s2k and it's been about 6 months now and I reckon the turbo is taking a ----. It makes a very loud howling noise once the car is warmed up. When I initially start the car, it'll boost fine and like I said, once warmed, it starts to make a howling noise and boost is gone.

I don't believe it to be the charge pipes because I've checked all the couplings and again, it boosts good and well when it's cooled.

Also, the compressor wheel spins very freely when the car is off and when the intake is off you can see the wheel spinning. There is no smoke coming out the back; however, I can see a bit of oil sputtering out of the compressor inlet when the throttle is revved.

I'm wondering if it's the seals, but again, there is no obvious smoke coming out the tail end. I am suspecting that the shaft might have been bent because the turbo was very close to the side wall (I'm talking about 1-2 mm of space) and when I took the turbo off, there were obviious signs of rubbing and butting up, so my theory is that the compressor housing was pushing up on the side wall everytime the engine shifted and because the turbine is secured to the manifold the pivotal part was on the shaft. can anyone confirm this?

Here's a vid of the sound it is making. Any help would be sweet as, I just want to make sure I know what the issue is. Cheers lads:

seems to me that your right and the shaft is bent and the fan is rubbing against the housing. it will probably be best just to get a whole new turo instead of getting a new shaft and fan and having to rebuild and balance it. or you can keep it the way it is becuase no one will ---- with you if they think you have a pack or wild wolves under your hood

yeah, that's what I had initially thought and I've been doing so much searching and have had SO many different ideas and opinions thrown at me, but have been weeding them out since it's throttle dependent as well as it only happens when the engine is warm!

In any case, it wouldn't be so bad if it sounded like that and actually boosted! haha, however, the sad fact remains that once it starts to howl, the boost does not build up. you could say it's all bark and no bite!

Funny thing is that there isn't "that" much scoring around the air inlet so I'm not sure how it could be so loud.

Either way, I do have a new turbo coming in so hopefully it will be all better. I did notch the side wall (too little too late though!) because I was told that many people with the s2k's do this, but I was reluctant to at first because really...cutting the frame of the s2k!! haha

Cheers for the input lads!

well it will be really loud becuase the fan is basically rubbing it at 10k+rpms thinf if you rubbed your fingers on the chaulk board ten thousand times a minute

Is it a howl or a whine? Exhaust leaks can definitely cause a whining turbo, very high pitched. If the leak was pre-turbo, it would explain why it won't build boost...

EDIT: Didnt see the video at first, I would make sure you dont have any leaks..
