i got this guy selling a turbo and he says that its a ball bearing. i was wondering if there was any way to tell the difference between a bb turbo and a non-bb turbo. i searched and didnt find anything. thanks

grab it and spin it, ball bearing turbos will spin super easy and keep spinning if you give em a good twist. thrust bearing turbos just spin a little and stop

 

if the BB is in really good condition, you can blow on the wheel and make it spin

 

Who makes the turbo and is it from a factory car?

Only a few factory cars came with bb turbos. New MX-5 Miatas Mazspeed Proteges, Skylines, and I'm not sure of any others.

How much is he asking if it cheap (average ebay or HMT price) it's probably not a bb.

I can get a mint nissan bb locally for 450.00CAN and a mint non-bb turbo with simlar specs for 275 at the same place.

 

thats not really a failsafe way to tell.

i get a bit of a semi around dave's crx, and thats just an sc61.

although, it could be the camo valve cover :P
