Default how to size up your pipe?charge that is

hey guys i'm in the middle of collecting peices for a hmt setup for my stock d16y7. i've got a starion front mount and a cx mani at my house. and i've already have a wrx turbo(td04l-13g) and some 450's on their way. i plan on managing it with a p06 and uber.

i'm trying to figure out: how do i decide which charge pipe diameter would be optimal for my setup? i figured 2" would be a good safe bet but i honestly don't know what would be the most efficient.

if you guys could shed some light on this that'd be great.

thanks i appreciate it,
-Luke

2 is probably fine, but the bigger the better.

bigger isnt better. with a smaller turbo there is no sense in having 6" IC pipes...

bigger pipes = bigger pressure drop, unless your turbo is massive...

i mean your turbo is 2" outlet, going to 3" pipe isnt gonna change anything because it has already gone through that 2" hole...

you are correct in that its probably pointless to do more than 2" if the hole is 2". but I think he could enlarge the hole to as much as 3".

Bigger charge pipes dont create a pressure drop, just takes longer to reach full boost, but will net more power.

it will not net more power if your going from 2" to 3"

if u had a hose, 1" to 3" flow is the same and pressure is less..

now explain how u would make more power with the same flow and more lag..

I just based mine on the parts I used...

Turbo outlet was 2", Intercooler Inlet was 2", Intercooler Outlet was 2" (REDUCER HERE), Throttle Body was 2-1/2"

Badda Bing, Badda Boom...

wrong again. The only way huge *** chargepipes will create more power is with a huge *** turbo. There is no more power to be gained with making larger charge pipes. There's more cross sectional area to fill with boost, more lag and yes there even can be a pressure drop depending on the turbo size.

2-2.5 inch charge pipes is what you want. Anything smaller is too small and anything larger is dumb unless your building a 700hp motor

hmm well 700whp was pretty close to my goals. i was shootin for like 170ish so....haha..

i'll go with 2" pipes then. gotta email my tig welder and have him throw on some 2" inlet/outlets on my starion fmic.

thanks guys

I would reccomend 2 inch from turbo to intercooler , than 2.5 from intercooler to throttle body.
