HOW MUCH BOOST CAN I RUN?

hi...
i have a 91 civic with a d15b7 motor.

i have a 14b with a tubular manifold and 2.5 inch exhaust and toyota supra fmic with 2.5 inch piping....and 450cc dsm injectors and apexi.

recently i installed a honda metal hg and arp head studs to really crank it down.

last week i blew the motor bad...i fried the d15b7 pistons.....
so i was on a budget....so i did a little research....
i found d16y8 dished pistons stock bore and i used a d16y8 metal hg and i ended up with a low 8-1 comp. setup PERFECT FOR TURBO SETUP....

is 9 lbs conservitve for this comp or can i turn it up more ... 12 or so? what do u think...?

Re: HOW MUCH BOOST CAN I RUN?

ahh man with that turbo you could do 30psi easy! but i would not do less than 40psi, thats where its really efficient :y

Re: HOW MUCH BOOST CAN I RUN?

i will run with T4 ..quick spool with that engine..

P.S read FAQ guy.

Re: HOW MUCH BOOST CAN I RUN?

Dont listen to renr.. I would keep it anywhere under 25 psi on a t3/t4 turbo.. Your straight.

Re: HOW MUCH BOOST CAN I RUN?

The 14b has the new Garrett Balistic Concepts triple ball bearing center section and of course the gargantuan T5 exhaust wheel mated with the 83 trim compressor wheel, so it's very capable contrary to popular belief. Of course that's the JDM 14b, so if yours is USDM or IDM (Icelandic Domestic Market) I wouldn't run it all, but if it's the true JDM 14b then it's easily capable of anywhere as low as 10psi to just shy of 60psi.

At 10psi it'll flow 650cfm which is about 400whp, but with the triple bearing CHRA it'll spool like lightning, so go ahead and run closer to 35-40 because that's the efficiency range which is right around 1250cfm.

Just tell everyone who asks about your car that you have the Mitsubishi Triple Ball Bearing Balistic Concepts JDM Garrett 14b T5/83 Trim Hybrid. They'll know what you mean :y.

to be honest 9 seems about right. that is what the wastegate is set at on that turbo and your little motor will handle it just fine. anything after that yous pushing it

#1, Learn to spell, jackass.

#2, d16turbo.com isn't the site you're thinking of; its turbod16 (Still very gay.)

#3, this site has more than enough information about TURBOCHARGING. Why don't you direct the canuck to a sticky in here instead of another site :1

And the OP should just grab a rope. :)

what kind of site is this????

THis is a site where we all learn what were doing before we go putting turbo's on stock engines. If youve done so little research that you don't understand what the limits of your engine are............Then your not ready to even start buying parts yet.
Our rudeness has nothoing to do with nationalism . It's because weve all learned and earned what we know. Your asking for a handout Just like your country will ask for aid from the US when you get your next natural disaster.

You want a real opinion of your ------- MAD TYTE JDM DISHED PISTONS on your pencil thin D15 rods? If the C/R is 8:1 like you stated, I wouldn't go past 10psi on that 14b if it's tuned right that is...

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Well then, I will politely say this to you...you sir, are a retard. So you supposedly have this dsm making all this power, but you still don't grasp the concept of forced induction and it's limits in the first place.
How's this for a scenario? Maybe if you researched the hp limits of the engine FIRST it will then lead to your conclusion of how many psi to run to achieve "x" cfm flow to meet said required hp level. So you don't think you can run a 14b over 9psi on your little c/r d15? I laugh in your face. My old stock z6 motor enjoyed 14psi from a 14b on a daily basis, my old LS/14b enjoyed well into the 19psi range before it bit the dust, and just recently my b16 enjoyed 10-12psi for the short while I had the turbo on there. Not to mention that motor saw 13psi from a precision sc61 unit to the tune of 317whp for a quick one. To ask how many psi to run is like asking how many times you are going to prove you know very little about this type of stuff and embaress yourself. ;)

You've got a long way to go, noob. ::)

That was rude. Listen, you never explained yourself. You said Y8 pistons, so we assume it's in a....Y8, which it's not it was in a D15 which also means it needed bored/honed to fit a larger piston. In turn, it is NOT a normal set-up. You mentioned two different engine codes and expected us to understand what you want exactly. Where you are at is going to be fine and the rods are far to small to really push it much further.

Bore is the same from the d15's to d16's...stroke is different. I know personally that d15 pistons will fit a d16 bore.

I was wondering that as I typed it, but didn't know for sure. Still not a typical style set-up. Thanks for clarification though. ;) ;D Where does the other .1L come into play then? Do they only fit because the cylinder walls aren't perfectly OEM spec and a little looser? Just curious.

It's done the same way as say a b16 compared to a b17...longer stroke creates more displacement, even though they both have the same block/head.

less comp...more timing and more boost and more fuel....

Correct. Less compression will allow much greater boost pressures with an advanced timing curve, but only up to a point. D-series motors are picky with timing, and they don't tend to like a great amount of it.
