Default How much blowby is normal?

I have noticed a slight amount of oil drops on my valvecover under my valvecover breather. Now if i rev the car up a lot at idle I don't notice any oil or smoke coming out of the breather, but obviously when its under load there is a small amount of oil coming out. I have done a compression test and it was normal. I don't have an aftermarket pcv system so does this amount of blowby sound about right for that?

If you're turboed, expect a lot more blowby than normal. A general estimate when planning for these sort of things (if you're an automotive engineer) is that the difference in blowby between N/A and 12-15psi is a factor of three.

If you're getting 2cfm of blowby N/A, expect 6cfm when turbocharged.

deffinately get a catch can on there or it's gonna get worse. i ended up hooking both my pcv and the valve breather to my catch can so it wouldn't make a mess like yours is

well i did another dreaded death test.

190 185 185 185.

I guess i just need to get something to catch this gunk. It really isn't that much, but i'm paranoid.

plenty of people run stock pcv systems.

bbka is a good example.

as long as you're not burning off a bunch of oil and nothing is too excessive, dont sweat it.

youll know something is wrong when you rev the engine and you see white smoke come out the valvecover. I had this problem with stock blocks. Now with forged internals I turn the filter I have on the valvecover over once a week or so and Ill see a little oil residue but not enough to make a mess.

yea i took the filter off and revved the engine sky high and no visable smoke or anything came out. I guess the oil is just buildup of the oil regular oil vapors.
