on my old car a 97 eclipse. I was in virginia at the time and my car dynod 12 hp to the wheels just putting a bigger down pipe on...

Ever heard of the exhaust cut out? you put it between your down pipe and your converter, at the flip of a switch you can have the exhaust dumb out before the converter, flip the switch back and you have a stock exhaust. its pretty cool. not expensive either, good way out of tickets
"wasnt my car ossifer... listen" or "cmon race me its nothing... its got stock exhaust for god sake"

did none of you guys notice what he said?
he said he's planning on running 8psi

hes not going to lose 20-30 friggin whp due to his exhaust setup.

he has no cat and a muffler welded on.

yes he definetely should get new exhaust,
but I'd bet he wont get more than 10-15whp, and some better spoolup.

NOTE
if you want to spank your friend, or hit some great numbers on the dyno..
just leave your friggin exhaust off

10-15whp is a ------- assload of hp to just be losing like that. Even if it was only 10 it would be a giant loss. Plus, he is using a good sized turbo and at 8psi you would be surprised what kind of looses could occur by using a straw as an exhaust pipe. Even if he gained a faster spool time and no peak hp he would run a faster 1/4.

I bolted up my 2.5" downpipe to stock catback on my crx dx. There is so much backpressure the boost gause will only go up to 4psi. When I have it downpipe only, it spikes up to 9psi. I would say it's easily restricting over 30whp. does that help?

We gained 50WHP on a GSX by going from stock exhaust to a 10 inch piece of 3 inch. But nobody believes what I say anymore.

The best exhaust on a turbo is no exhaust. If you can stick a vaccum cleaner to the end of the exhaust it would be ideal. The less pressure on the outlet of the turbine wheel, the faster it will spool and the more power it will make.

instead of discussing the power loss... just replace the exhaust and not worry about it

That's exactly what i was taught as well, on a N/A car you'll lose power by going to an exhaust that is too big, but on a turbo application, bigger is better and none is better than all.
