What was his first objective? Wasn't he trying to max out the stock turbos? i can't really remember the old HP #s either. That would be a good example of what this guy is up against.

single turbo: since you probably have a HMT budget, you could get a remanufactured Full T4 twin scroll 60-1 from some turbo shop for less than half the price of a gt35R or gt4088R and results that are almost just as good.
Using the twin scroll feature will compensate for the lack of ball bearings!
Use either one big 46+mm wastegate or two 35/38 mm WG !!!

twin turbo: Again, you could grab a pair of .48/.60 t3 60 trim or even t3t04e 46 trim for cheap and that's good for almost 600 HP. 0.63 turbines would work with better top end and more HP but i'm affraid it could lag.
OF course you could go with a pair of gt2860R that are much more expensive but on a twin setup, you can save by using internal wastegates.

Can't you get GTxxE, the journal bearing variants?

yes sure a GT3782 jornal bearing is good for 550 HP and twin scroll.
or if that's not enough, the GT4082 jornal bearing for 650 HP.

those a a great pick for under than 1000$ but they come with pretty high A/R's not sure what the spool up will look like.

I know they make GT28E and GT32E, do they make GT30E or GT35E?

3S's run DIS, here's an article if you're interested.

If you wanna stay cheaper, I'd recommend staying twin turbo, it's just more simple because the framework is already there for you. It sounds like for the goals you speak of, you'd be well suited with EvoIII 16g's. You'll definately need a front mount. If you wanna go cheap, you can just gut the precats and not have to buy O2 housing/precat eliminators (not sure if this will make 600 awhp though).

The only options people really use for engine management on a large scale is AEM EMS or ARC-2, look into it. ARC-2 isn't the BEST, but Matt Monett uses it, and he just hit 9's on a stock bottom end.

And if you actually want to do it as cheap as possible, open your mind up to using nitrous, because it'll be a lot easier. I've heard of somebody who I believe ran an 11.7 on the stock 9b's (------ tiny) with nitrous.

If you have any 3S specific questions, let me know, and I'll try to find out for you, I have a tt stealth (i'm selling), but I do a lot of research on them.

My understanding is R=ball bearing and E=journal bearing.

It's actually even simpler than that!!!

R= ballbearing

...everything without a R is journal bearing.
