Honda's and boosting in 5th Gear

I have been told by a couple of people that D series tranny's can't take boost in 5th gear at all and will kill it.

anyone know of any truth to that?

Most engines can't take boost in 5th gear. This luggs the motor too much and overboosts the motor usually. As for the tranny, it might blow too. Especially if you are in 5th, you are going pretty fast. It is possible, but not likely for the tranny to go.

i think theres going to be more stress on the tranny launching or doing a burn out then there will be boosting in 5th gear.

5th gear is not a problem with boost but brett said, it puts more of a load on your engine than anything and lugs it. Which isnt the best thing in the world. As far as blowing the tranny, thats very unlikly, but it could happen, hard launchs 4-8k kills trannys and axles.

by 5th gear the stress is all gone. you have soooo much momentum going that your car can perform its best here. If 5th is making your motor "bog" then you need shorter gears.. "much shorter" ;D
