Hmmmm. I don't think anyone here has worked on an Audi, especially an I5. Check the FAQ section, and a lot of your questions will be answered.

Best of luck!

that's going to be a bitch. Custom manifold for starters. Probably be able to bastardize some larger injectors and use one of the "cheat" engine management solutions.

A 1986 audi likely has Bosch k-jetronic or similiar mechanical fuel injection from Bosch. Very hard to make sense of if you want modifications I think.

christ it's late or else I would be more help with your bosch jetronic systems.

If that is anything like the ones I'm used to (I forget all the ones on any of my volvos) then it is a real pain. You probably even have a seperate spark computer and then the ecu which controls it. Mass air flow sensor, o2 lambda ssesnor.. it's kinda messy.

Have u considered swapping into a diff motor?

A lot of people have converted from mechanical to electronic injection.

in terms of the level of pain you will suffer (mental, monetary, and physical):

swapping in the 5000 turbo motor and ecu = trying to ram a stick up your ***

turboing a NA 2.2L and ------- around with that horrid CIS = trying to ram your entire car up your ***

At the shop i used to work at, we used to do alot of VW/Audi natural and turbo work. The injection style u probably have is called CIS injection, which is awesome for turbo...mostly because it rely's on vacuum and boost pressure to open the throttle plate, which in turn adds or decreases fuel. Your best bet for adding a turbo is to either find an oldschool Audi GT turbo and use that manifold, or to have one custom made. As far as fuel upgrades for boost, all you really need to do is swap a set of oldschool 911 turbo injectors in place of the originals, and pipe the turbo in through the CIS unit.

I have an exhaust manifold from an Audi 5000 Turbo. The catches are:
1. I don't have the external wastegate (although I can weld this shut, or you could too)
2. The flange for the turbo is for the Audi 5000 turbo - I think it's a KKK, it's an odd shape - but an adaptor for this would be do-able, I guess.

If you can weld, I'd suggest making your own.
