holset turbos anyone?

I've got 2 spare B18C's sitting in my storage area, and they want some lovin'. I'm gonna boost one of them, blow one up, and probably boost the other one, blow that fucker up also. >:D

Mainly, there is a ------ skyline that im wanting to toast the living ---- out of cause the guy talks mad ---- about hondas, so hes needing to get his ass really handed to him. ^-^

Anyways, im reading that people are getting some real nice #'s from holsets. Who here has EXPERIENCE with them. They are super cheap on ebay, you can get a rebuilt holset for around $400...so why the hell not? t3 flanged, so thats no problem....I really see no reason not to get one.

Who here has experiences with them...

My Hy35 on my LS got 15psi by 4,500 and 21psi before 5k.

Leed tuned a Stock LS-vtec holset hx35 on 13psi it made 323whp :6

SkunT 01-09-2007 02:34 AM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

that was just a straight HX35, no 'hybrid' holsets. Id be happy with 323, im on a stock GSR. Im gonna get a cosmec HG to help the compression...

Tom-Guy 01-09-2007 03:30 AM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

Don't bother with the thick HG unless your gasoline is crappy.

Go HX35, be careful of manifold selection though. HX35 has a 9" scroll and is a bit wider than a T04, so if the manifold was made to tuck a T3, T3/T04, or T04 close to the block an HX35 probably won't fit.

CSaddict might have experience and be able to fab you up some Holset madness. :y

Re: holset turbos anyone?

The only issue I have with Holset turbos is their lack of customer support. I tried getting information from them about the HX35 and HX40 with regard to compression maps, but they deem those confidential. Can't you get the bullseye housing and make it a direct bolt on for your car?

Re: holset turbos anyone?

i looovveee holset turbos. I have a H1C on my 240 and it spools by 4k rpms. I'm putting another on my brothers mustang right now.
Even the oil drain is t3.. can't beat that.

lack of customer support....
im not buying it directly from them, im most likely going to be buying a used turbo, if they wanna keep there maps secret, thats fine by me...

...but the point is, people are making good, efficient power from them, they are cheap and many out there to purchase. Id like to think im not the first or there are few people on HMT who has/have used a holset.

All the HX25-50, and older H1C/H1e/etc, Holset compressor maps have been leaked to the public. Time to netsearch.

One of the few things I've found a DSM owner good for...

Re: holset turbos anyone?

I forget where in the thread, but there's a post or two by a Morphieus or some such name, he links to a DSM board that has all the compressor maps posted.

It's a fairly informative thread.

Re: holset turbos anyone?

more then a stock f22 can handle is the answer or at least within a safe range. so it should meet whatever goal you are trying to make.

I'm gonna go with AJxr on this one too.

gen4acclude 01-09-2007 10:43 PM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

how do you figure it to be more then what the f22b1 can handle f blocks are bullet proof well almost but ---- rods and pistons and fill the block i bet i would be quite high block can handle 25+psi

AJxr 01-09-2007 10:46 PM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

yeah doesnt really matter how much psi, say you ran 25 psi from that holset and made 500whp... your rods would meet your firewall and some other stuff in your engine bay.

of course the amount of boost matters on an engine but you also have to take how much power your engine can hold into consideration.

AJxr 01-09-2007 10:47 PM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

edit: i re-read and i assume you mean aftermarket rods and pistons, yeah idk still think the holset will set ya good.

btw i did say it would max out the power you can do with a STOCK f22

No it doesn't. Intake pressure means very little beyond port flow dynamics.

Re: holset turbos anyone?

here is a map that I found
I have no idea what size housing they have though

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...-/untitled.jpg

I picked up a H1C with a 12cm housing for $75, Im gona put it on a friends 99 3.8 v6 camaro. Gona push about 8lbs. It should get up and go prety good. I know that finding a clutch that will hold the power is gona be the hardest part.

25-42 were the most informative, for some reason ~35 rings bells I think I was active in there about then. I haven't checked it in over a year and a half, I'd guess.

SkunT 01-10-2007 06:52 AM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

usually on those huge ass threads I start at about 10 pages from where it ended. 99% of the posts are "subcribed" when the only thing the bastards have to do is click subscribe. ::)

SO anyways, yeah, I see absoutly no reason not to get one. Cheap and make power. I could spend the same amount of $$ and get 1/ 2the turbo elsewhere. Looking forward to the build.

And ohh yeah, suspossed to race this bastard this weekend. Hes running a RB25 (STOCK) in a R32 GTS-t. Im gonna put him on the ole roteserie. :6 :y
I hope like hell someone brings a video camera.

Yes, I had an HX35(4.5) and laged like hell on a 5.9L I6 Cummins. The GT60 Stage 3 we had laying around spools much faster(3.5K).

SkunT 01-11-2007 09:51 PM

Re: holset turbos anyone?

4K at full boost isnt laggy. expecially when you have a 8000rpms rev limit.

leed summed it up best; they spool perfectly on stock 1.8 GSR and LS/VTEC. Joey agrees. :y
