Sounds like your bleeding some of it off, but more check valves are probably needed. I think your other idea is better, chip an ecu.

 

does your car sound like a subaru on idle? perhaps you're down a cylinder.

leakdown/compression test pls.

just ordered the a obd2a-obd1 conv. harness(cousin is getting it for me) and the uberdata chip kit from xenocron. with a custom basemap. can't wait till next week.

 

it looks like the oil took out both your sensors
i got a 02 code a week ago. i replaced it with 13007 from autozone and it works fine now, but like you, my car wants to die when idle. it usually happens after it gets warm, then it will idle extremely low, like 100.
