Default d16

yeah its on a d16a6 witha y8 two layer headgasket felpro, vitara 8:5:1 pistons....guess it could be timing with lower compression do i need to retard or advance distributor...I have an adjustable camgear...but since its a full a6 motor shouldnt the cam timing be set to stock...could i have the distributor 180 out?

You put vitaras in an A6, your compression is ridiculous low then... 120 sounds about right. Heck, the highest I ever saw dry on my vitara y7 was maybe 130 psi so... but yeah, your cam/ignition timing is definitely off, or your tune sucks. And about your cam timing question, yes, it should be set to stock. Make sure it is.

well according to the dseries comp calculator i should be at or around 8.22.1 comp with the hg and vitaras I thought that was good for boost.

a6 heads just have really big combustion chambers so I wasn't sure, but yeah, 8.2 isn't too low exactly... And 120-125 sounds about right for that compression ratio. Set timing and tune it and it should run fine.

I figured that i could run some more timing with the low comp, and run around18-20psi with a3bar map...but to break her in on stack map sensor at around 10psi...should be a motor capable of 250-300 horsepower with the right tune....a6 has a better cam than the y7,b7 better combustion chambers...i have eagle rods and block guard....and a jdmd15b tranny with lsd....so it should be straight.

to my knowledge, most honda dizzys cant be installed 180 out. They have some kind of lock on the gear. How much was your head/block milled?

That HG will not correct that fact that the Vitaras in an A6 are yielding like 7.5-7.7:1 compression... the D-series calculator u used apparently doesn't have the right numbers overall for the Vitara piston. This stuff was covered in a huge thread on H-T when we were all debating them with FJT.

I think I manually calculated 7.5 for the Vitaras when they became popular a while back. I never did figure out how people are running these as "drop in" without decking or changing rod length; compression in the 7's is just too low.

It does sound like a timing issue for the bogging. Easy enough to change and try it out.
