Hey! I have been looking to this forum for a long while. Just never got time to actually post and follow up on any thread!

Me, I use the BOrgwarner 51t32 on all the H22's I build.
It's a strong turbo equipped from the factorty with a bolted down 360° thrust plate and integrated backplate (no seal)... by 3000RPM, it if fully spooled-up on a H22.
To get a garrett turbo that sturdy, you have to pay extra.

The most power I have seen with this borg is 417 WHP on a 2.0 toyota.
On the JDM H22 (10.4:1 cr) that I worked on, 7 psi gave 310WHP using this turbo
On the USD 10:1 H22, 7-8 psi will produce over 250 WHP
On my own forged H22 (9:1 CR) I just produced 277WHP at 15 psi last week. Cranking up the boost now.

I have a firend who mounted it on a H22 with the infamous OBX manifold. Despite the bad reputation of the manifold, he's getting amazing results. For over 2 years now. HEre's a picture...

And here's mine. IT's a 4 years old setup. The turbo has been untouched since. It did not gain one single thousand of shaft play. Still running strong. Very strong!

Sorry for the logo on the pictures. It's mostly to avoid having my pictures stolen.

Oh sorry! I though SHINGARA was asking for a good turbo TO START WITH...

the 60-1 and 60-2 are of course bigger than the borg and they are able of over 500 BHP with no significant loss of efficiency and they can be pushed to over 600 HP. Only one out of ten turbocharged H22 will need that and it certainly isn't to "start with" but most likely a wild drag racing beast on which lag and that much exrta expense$$ is not a problem.
To start with, Most people seem to be happy with 8-10 psi on a stock or almost stock engine. Which is normally under 300 WHP.
For that type of goals, I would certainly not go 60-1 or 60-2 but maybe, to stay in the garrett turbos, the T0B 63 or 70 trim. (known as the V and H trims)

Hey you guys wouldnt be able to tell the diff between lag and your vtec (jokes)

and also your contradicting urselfs - looking at ur faq on turbo sizing

GT-35R -------------- 820 CFM at 14.7 PSI
========= 464 CFM max flow for a 2.2 Liter at .85 VE pressure ratio 2.0 (14.7 PSI) 7000 rpm =======

somethings not quite right there hummmmmmmmmmm.

T72 ------------------ 920 CFM at 14.7 PSI <--- Note you would have to spin a 2.0 L engine at about 14,000 rpm to flow this much air.

100 more cfm and 14000rpm hummmmmm

also he asked for a starter turbo didnt he :P so as we say in england up urs

BAh.. You know after all, flow charts are not really that accurate. You can't really use them to predict the behiavior of the whole turbo.
If you try to accurately calculate the best suited turbo for your ride, you may get lucky but most of the times, another turbo with different specifications will still work better.
Experience, I guess, will always remain the best way to size a turbo.

I got some love for the 35r

Get Josh's turbo for a starter, but remember you need other ---- too. Not just a turbo.

I would love the GT35R for my H22 too!!!

I found the way to duplicate the GT35R specs on a conventional bearing turbo. It's much cheaper and still very sturdy. big difference on th price though: New reman, freshly balanced to .5 grams, 6 month warranty for 750$ only.
actually, I have no problem disclosing the specs of the resulting turbo: it's T3/T04B 0.63 or 0.82 a/r stage 3 turbine, oil and watercooled center section, 360° thrust that is bolted down, and T04B 70 trim, 0.70 a/r compressor.
I currently have enough parts to build 3 like that.
