it all depends what you want, the MSpeed was not meant to be a 1/4 mile monster, its more a track car, turbo is a fast spooling turbo which will help coming out of corners, not get you high mph in 1/4's.in terms of power the srt4 will blow its doors off and in terms of handleling the Mspeed will leave the srt4 spinning tires around corners, not for nothing but srt4 sucks are cornering, feels almost like a stock civic to me .stock for stock the Mspeed outhandled a integra type R around the track, which in my opinion had the best fwd suspension setup, before the Mspeed showed up.

do we have stats on the cars to back up the cornering claims?

Motortrend tested the SVT foci, M-speed, and SRT4... The M-speed and the SRT4 were like .00000000001 second apart on a road-coarse... They did meantion that the M-speed had the best handling, but the M-speed isn't trying to manage a 250LBS of torque engine....

Put good suspention on a Geo-strom, and it'll hang with the M-speed, but still be kina slow.

motor trend specs:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...zda/index.html

"For that power increase, Mazda went to the turbo gods at Callaway Cars. The resulting 170-hp engine employs, among other things, a Garrett T-25 turbocharger equipped with a lag-reducing ball-bearing center housing. Turbo lag is non-existent; output is now strong and linear. And a new limited-slip differential helps get that power to the ground"

"The now muscular Protege stops better, as well, via a European-spec four-wheel-disc brake system complete with standard ABS. The anti-lock setup wasn't present on our preproduction example, but even without it, we could feel the difference. Instrumented testing backed us up with an 8-ft-shorter 60-0-mph stopping distance, and an ABS-equipped production model is sure to do even better"

0-60 6.5
1/4 mile 14.9 @93mph

it looks like it has huge room for improvement, like a les restrictive exhause, ive heard a bigger DP...

I would take the SRT4 over this thing

also, less not forget to meantion that these tests were done using the 03' SRT4, not the 04' that has a LSD...

Race cars don't use ABS BTW.

Show me a stock M-speed running 14.9 !!!

Scary enough the only car I've seen in central FL that has lived up to the "magizine times" is the SRT4 !!! My friends GTi is supposed to run " 15.3" according to motortrend, but with a intake, APR chip ( adds about 8psi ), and greddy BOV the BEST time he got all day was 15.6, and aside from that he ran in the 16's all day !! Meanwhile there were 4 SRTs running high13's ( small mods ) and low 14s bone bone stock.

those drivers are 100% pro's
and yes, that makes a difference

someone who tests cars for a living, pushes cars to there extreme limits and somoene who drag races as a hobby on saturday night, will have 2 different times in any car at any givin time.

you drove both around a course and came to that conclusion?

Well im sorry to hear ur friend is only running 15.6 second quickest with his gti and those mods. My buddy owns a 2001 gti 1.8 t and was running 15.5's completely bone stock he added an intake and a diverter valve as well as a 20% reduce throw neuspeed shifter and was around 15.1 alot of it is skill and knowing how to launch ur car. Tell him to practice and those times should improve dramatically
