finally boosted---pics and problems

10 Attachment(s)
finally did my ----.
z6/a6 minime- arp's, act clutch, recent rebuild
t3/t04b .50 trim 48/60 rebuilt by blaast
520cc injectors
hf mani
homemade charge pipes 2.5" gettin them powdercoated soon for free
2.5-3" dp
3" exhaust to magnaflow
greddy style bov
crome
everything was done by me
had to make the pipes to fit my eg fogs.

it idles very well after i adjusted the fuel multiplier. tune cuts out in boost. i dont have a wideband

PROBLEMS: boost wouldnt build with internal wastegate- only got to about 3 psi. i fixed all the leaks and still wouldnt do more than 3psi. manifold had a leak from no gasket but i made a gasket for it
blocked off wastegate line and it builds to about 8psi but i think the tune is bad as it studders when boost hits.

the oil line fitting on turbo broke today. it was too big so i grinded it down and jbwelded it in. anyone know the right size?

Stop trying to build boost in neutral, you need load
to create boost.

ok thanks for clearing that up. this is my first turbo car

also im not sure if my oil line is -3 or -4an. the nut takes a 9/16 wrench.
i need to buy a new fitting that fits the turbo

Sweet ride! Good work getting the internal wg actuator fitted, I didnt wanna go through the trouble with mine (very similar setup) so I ground out the o2 hole and welded a 38mm wg flange on top of the mani like you mention possibly doing. I say do it... My car holds consistent pressure every time ;)

What basemap do you have on it?

are you sure that the actuator is holding the flapper all the way shut?

md95ej1 12-02-2007 02:04 AM

Re: finally boosted---pics and problems

im using this basemap, jeffsciv23.bin http://www.-------------/bins/index.p...rome/D-Series&

except i changed it for 520cc injectors and the fuel multiplier is set at .46. turbo efficiency is at 180% with 1.25 retard per psi

if someone wants to check this out it'd be cool it is busting out real bad when boost comes on. i'll try to post the actual bin i am running soon, its on the other laptop but i havnt changed the plugs yet

yea its tight

i broke my makeshift oil inlet. i ordered the bolt-on flange so it should be here this week. i hope my ---- is -3an cuz thats what i bought. the nut on the line is 9/16"

no pics of the bumper on. but i think it looks sick. type r lip, fogs, front mount = the hotness

Re: finally boosted---pics and problems

all of the lines i have that use a 9/16" wrnech are -4an lines, but all of my lines came from airplanes. planes dont use -3an so i have never come accross it.

did you put the next step coler plugs in? if so make sure the gap is small. a little smaller than stock setting

Re: finally boosted---pics and problems

so i got my oil inlet in the mail last night and it turns out my line is -4an. the fitting i got is -3an. thats ------- gay. now i gotta find somethin else

yeah i got it from somone off here. its good. had to port it alot but it lines up and works.

HiProfile 12-12-2007 12:25 AM

Re: finally boosted---pics and problems

You should be able to get the oil inlet at a place like Homeboy Depot. "AN" fittings are just 37 degree JIC fittings, aka 'flare' fittings. The common flare fittings will be 37* JIC.

BTW I used the same turbo, which is actually an S-Trim. It should measure 50mm inducer, 70mm exducer. I have an Uberdata map somewhere for that same turbo on the same motor with the same manifold with the same wastegate & 3" exhaust using 780cc injectors. Send me $5 paypal and I'll make it work for you. It will be good for 11psi, and with my 780's it idled like a champ. I even worked out taht weird 2500rpm Uberdata 'twitch' that's usually there.

BTW the map you have sucks. To start, its for a d16y8, meaning 4 degrees less timing everywhere as opposed to what you should run. The exception is the low-cam, where there is a jump from 10ish to 17ish degrees at 3500 rpm. The worst part - there's not enough fuel. For instance my T3 d16z6 with DSM 450's has a fuel value of 1188 at the cell 6k @ 5.7 psi. That BIN is 897 at the cell 6k @ 5.8psi. You have a bigger turbo that I do, and probably a much better exhaust.

In other words, the person who made that "jeffciv23" map should expect his motor to blow up soon, assuming he doesn't sell it from it bucking like a bronco & pinging like crazy. Check your plugs and make sure they don't show massive detonation.

the internal inertia of the engine is enough. if you hit the gas and hit redline without boost, something is wrong.

just add two step for consistent boost down much lower.

It aint good to redline the motor without any load, plus his turbo is not
that small to build boost in neutral. 2 step is another thing though.

fe3tcourier 12-13-2007 05:57 AM

Re: finally boosted---pics and problems

---- offfff.....

flooring the gas and finding the redline and lifting immediately is NO DIFFERENT TO RUNNING THROUGH FIRST GEAR INTO THE SAME LIMITER.

whats not good is being at high revs with no load. you can not have your foot down and have no load unless you are bouncing off the limiter...

i didnt say bounce. i said rev to redline and lift. that is no worse for the engine than any other time you hit those revs

also, it generates less heat because of the short time frame.

in summary...

ah, ---- it.

seriously though, its not a social occasion is it? its a tech sharing thing, hence the forced induction section. you wont find me in "general discussion" very often because i just dont give a ---- whos shagging who or whatever todays hot topic is.

fact is, its not bad for the engine to rev out to redline, and the dude posted that it was. i corrected him, you felt upset about that. diddums for you.

haven't you read "BELOW AVERAGE IQ: A CLOSER LOOK AT THE WORLD THROUGH THE EYES OF RETARDS."

in chapter 4 it clearly states that running a car to redline = death.

either there was sarcasm here, or you have less clue than you think you do ;-)

tell that ---- to my ex-rb20de that spent more time above the red mark than below it.

also, tell that to bdvt who spends a lot of time on the limiter :-) i was telling him that its a bad idea. running it to redline is not, holding it there under no load is. holding it there under load is only a plan with sufficient cooling power which most cars just dont have.

You need to do something about a PCV setup. It looks like you connected the PCV back to the vacuum line with that T?

Nah you need to take out the valve and hollow it out, or replace it with a hollow elbow or something of the like.

Unless that's what you mean by open.
