Default EGT PROBE

I read on honda-tech, that the the egt probe must be tapped in the manifold #3 runner, is that a must? or can it be tapped into the upper part of the downpipe and work fine?

You can mount it in the DP but it's less accurate as the temp is the combo of all 4 runners which can mask a problem. The #3 runner just gives more accurate reading. I tapped my probe off the #3 runner.

the actual best way would be in the middle of the mani.. I've also heard first cylinder for some reason.

I have a probe in each runner of my mani and one in the turbo exhaust housing itself. To get the most accurate readings, mount the probes 1/2 inch away from the flange that bolts to the head.

I get instant readings vs. the slow inacurrate reading of the probe in or after the turbo.

I have the same crappy mani that you have. I drilled holes in each runner 1/2 an inch away from the flange and then tapped and threaded each hole. Then I screwwed the probes in and welded them to keep them from backing out.

If you mount the probes 1/2 an inch to an inch away from the flange you will get pinpoint accuracy; trust me.

I ------- hate that. Runner mounted EGT probes are ideal.

Do you use one gauge for all of that? I'd like to know exactly how you did that. I can't see an advantage really, except maybe an average reading of all the cylinders combined, which I can't see being better. If you wanted that you should have just mounted it in the DP. Do you have any pics of your setup? I'd like to see it.
