Detonation

Re:Detonation
Actualy yes you can detonate when running rich.
Lets say you ran XX psi on 93 octane with no problems, just because you add more fuel does not mean you can just turn the boost X psi higher. Adding more fuel will not allways be fine. There comes a point where the limilting factor is the fuel itself as in the octane is to low. I have had my car run pig rich and still got some dettonation.

Re:Detonation
Too far advanced ignition also plays a large role in detonation. Keep an eye on your static timing. Also keep in mind that if you retard it a lot you loose power and your egt's go through the roof, which is not a good thing unless you like to melt things

Re:Detonation
its a knocking/pinging sound... you're hearing the rods shake or other metal parts touching that are never supposed to (ie, bearings).
The closest thing I can compare it to is a high flowing water hose that has a crimp in it, it sounds alot like the noise of water trying to squeeze through the hose.
