I've always wondered about that - since you get very high cylinder pressure for longer during the power stroke, you really don't need to take everything you can get while its near TDC. I've always though that the longer time its near peak cyl pressure means you have that much more time to get preignition.

I have a d15b with TT I beam rods and vitara pistons. I didnt have to notch the block or anything... no problems so far and I've had the setup for atleast 6 months

Hey sinner are the I-beams the one that do not need block notching? For some reason I thought the H-beams were non-notch. Last time I checked TT was out of stock. BTW who cares what is available when you are going FI. BTW the Vitara's will fit in both engines.
