d16 overheating.... i searched
 

ok so here is the deal... brand new headgasket back in may.... .020 over vitara/eagle build... pretty much the car will run great for 30 minutes or so, but after that the idle raises up to about 2k and the temp gauge slowly starts to creep up to about 3/4ths the way up a eg temp gauge. ive bled the coolant system a couple times and it is in no way pushing coolant. the car is not even in boost and is over heating. there is no white smoke what so ever coming out of my exhaust. the throttle body seems to stick at this 2k rpm spot once it starts heating up, the pedal can be pushed back in order to drop the idle back down, but once the gas pedal is pushed again it will fall back into this 2k rpm spot. it is very consistent with this.... as soon as the idle acts up.. .the car starts to overheat. im thinking i might need a coolant flush but i really have no idea. the car previously before i built it, which it was turbo on the stock engine, never overheated... and if it did it was a direct result of pushing coolant. the heat is really weird as well. sometimes the heat will be unbareably hot... where at other times it is not as intense and almost cool, this is what leads me to think that i need to flush my system out. im running an aftermarket mishimoto rad. with a slim line fan from b18bturbo i believe from honda tech.... any body else have similar problems like this with a d16 turbo? another thought i had was running a block off plate on the side where the condensor was previously...

Which d16? If its an a6 and you used a composite headgasket you fucked up. If not then you need to put a theromstat in first. If the car sat for any length of time, you probably have a stuck tstat, and its a real good idea to put a new rad cap on if you havent already.

if your heat goes away it means your losing water
probably from te hg
and you are probably losing water at the temp sensor and making it think its cold and raising you idle

this is all speculation but one thing is for sure, you are losing water somewhere

sorry this is on a z6.... temp sender is almost new... thermostat is new... well like less than 5k on it... but the car did sit for a 3-4 month period... ran... then sat for another 6 months or so... also the rad cap is has pretty much less than 5k on it as well... i guess if i got one of those i would probably need to get it right from mishimoto...

if temp gauge was losing water near it... would it not see it as hotter... raising the idle would not make any sense in that situation as temps would be way hotter than a "cold start"

dont ask a question and not listen. it is a stat from sitting u can get a bad one new. so try the cheap shitfirst

i understand this... but i believe the thermostat is working properly... both hoses leading to the radiator get quite hot so i know it is opening and closing as the one is cool after i first start it, while the other is hot... so im pretty sure that is in check.

omfg its a honda not a gm
ittl take you 2 seconds to change ur tstat that cost 7 bucks
its not like you have to completly remove your intake to get to the tstat

change it and see what happends and even if u change it and it doesnt fix it who gives a ----

could also be a broken water pump...
