compressor housing swap

I am looking to take my Saab TB0356 turbo I have on my civic and rebuild it, but with a .50 a/r compressor housing, and a .57 trim wheel from a t04e turbo. The stock TB03 has a .48 a/r exhaust housing. And .42 a/r cold side. I want this upgrade to stretch my power band further into my rpm's and maybe give me a little more power. Is this possible or do you think it will do nothing or more bad than good with that set up?

Re: compressor housing swap

i am not 100% sure, but i think machining the compressor housing will be required in order to fit a 57 trim compressor wheel in it, if it is coming from a .42ar cause i think that is a straight t3, and the 57 btrim comes from the t4 compressor family wheels

the set up comes with the to4e .50 a/r compressor housing, but other than that it should work?

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you! ;)

I'm currently using a turbo from an RB25DET. Pic:

I bought a bnew Garret T04B compressor-side assembly from Vecco. Pic:

Can't wait to put it on my car. I'll let you know how it goes!

I'm worried that the .48AR turbine housing wouldn't be able to bypass all the excess exhaust (internally gated) and cause boost creep :-X What do you guys think?

Update: Tried swapping the compressor side today - the thing does not fit! The thrust bearings are off by a lot, so much that even improvising wouldn't work! I'll need to find a real Garrett T3...

I'm going to be trying it with some kind of a T4 housing from a small tractor that my bro-in-law has kickin around and my .60/.63 T3. We'll see how it goes.

Volvo had a car with a .63 housing? I thought they were .48s. At least from every Volvo Turbo I've Seen.
