Default Clocking the hotside of a Mitsubishi TD04 turbo?

This is a TD04 from an '05 WRX ($80 with 20K on it!)

I've already figured how to rotate ("clock") the cold side (remove giant snap ring, grind off locating pin). I want to clock the center section relative to the hot side.

I've removed the center clamp and massaged it with the "blue wrench" (oxy-acetylene torch), gave it a few taps with a chisel and mallet, nothing. It's soaking in PB Blaster now, and yes I know it's flammable.

Am I missing something? I was thinking this was just a simple compression fit joint - is there a pin or something else holding it together?

If you already got the clip out, just put the compressor housing back on, put it in a vice (with rubber in between) and tighten it very well. Then get your best mallet and take your best shot at the exhaust housing. Make sure you hit it in the direction you want it to spin, not down.

put the cold side back on and stick something between the cold and hot and hit it...

For example a large socket or piece of wood that presses against both housings but not the center section. Hit that with a hammer several times on opposite sides. I've taken apart lots of turbos with only a few good whacks.

Umm, if it's anything like the MHI turbo's used on dsm's (td05h 14b's and such) then there is a pin in the exhaust side as well. No worries though, the pin pulls out after it's been disassembled. I took a fat stubby flat head screwdriver and cracked mine apart using it as a chisel. Took a little bit, but it did come apart.

that looks like the scooby turbo (wrx td04l-13t). i have two of them and have had to clock both hotsides.

i just hold the turbo by cupping my hand under the compressor side and then hit the exhaust housing with either a brass or rubber dead blow hammer. i apply hits evenly to all sides around the center section to seperate the housing

If it's an evo3 16g, then it's pretty much how I said to take the MHI apart. Never got to mess with a twin-scroll 16g, so try google or dsm sites.
