carb spring wastegate actuator

carb spring wastegate actuator
i've heard some people using carb springs as actuator arms, i like the idea of it failing in the open position instead of overboosting. can anybody give me an exact part number or something i should use to find it? or at least a rough idea of how strong it needs to be? i was originally going to go with the IWG's 8psi, but i need to clock the turbo to run my intake piping, and since i'm still using the d15b7 i'd like to set her back to around 5-6psi. just til i drop in my z6. that'd make it easy to change spring weights, and uberdata automatically adjusts to different pressures since it uses the map signal to control fuel/ign.

Re: carb spring wastegate actuator
is this what your talkin about? its a simple chain, and spring. i use it everyday! it holds boost pretty steady, and beyond belief if works. its a tempary thing though. also, boostcut is a great peice of mind.

Re: carb spring wastegate actuator
why worry about boost cut (even though i'm enabling it to be safe)? if it fails, its gonna fail in the open position. yeah thats what i was talking about, only i wasnt thinking about using the chain. just one big spring or 2 separate springs. it seems like a pretty good idea, using exhaust pressure to open the wastegate flapper...

and heat from the turbo heats the spring up loosing tension, which in turn opens the WG a little sooner.
