Re: car won't boost over 7 psi, bad turbo?
i call a turbo company and they said it might be too big of a turbo for my 1.8 dohc motor, but i doubt it
don't alot of you guys run this turbo with out any problems.
thanks

Quit keeping secrets from us!! you have a dohc 1.8 A B18a1 or what....And No the turbo isn't to big you got something weird happening a fire ring problem or an exhuast leak...I had a leak on my manifol when I first put my turbo on and it would only build 3 psi. so you really need to look hard.

Re: car won't boost over 7 psi, bad turbo?
well went and hook up a nother psi gauge and found out that my boost gauge is not working correctly.
now the gauge i use to compare to my autometer boost gauge was a milton 0-60 psi gauge that i bought from a hardware store.
Do you think it is as accurate (milton psi gauge) as a autometer or any other automotive boost gauge?
also i check both gauges from the same port at the same time. also all the test was done by check the gauges during a boost leak test, so im not sure if the problem is completely fix yet, have to go run it later today.
thanks

Re: car won't boost over 7 psi, bad turbo?
well i went and bought a new boost gauge on ebay for cheap. the brand name on the gauge is SWOOSH.
i went for a run with the wastegate line blocked off(vacuum caped) and it read 15psi on the swoosh and 10psi on the autometer, so my auto metere is reading wrong.
but it should still boost higher than 15 psi with the wasteline blocked of shouldn't it?
it was a full pull in 1st and 2nd that i got my 15psi reading.
im going to be doing some more testing tom. unless it snows
thanks

Re: car won't boost over 7 psi, bad turbo?
o.k. well i tried a few test, and this is what i came up with.
i had no boost leaks, i made sure the wastegate flapper was fully shut, also tested the wastegate acuator and i held psi with out leaking.
i was still only getting 10-15 psi with the wastegate vaccum line blocked off still,
so i said ---- it and put a pair of vice grips on my wastegate rod, and zip tied it so the rod could not move at all.
went for a run and what do you know 25 psi.
so has anyone ever ran into this problem were the exhaust flow actually pushed the wastegate flapper open even thou it wasn't your desiered boost level??
also i think im going to put a spring on the wastegate to add tention to it to hold it closed and re hook up my MBC and dial in 17 psi or what ever i decide to run, do you think it will be a o.k. to run a added spring to keep the wastegate shut, (but not to much tention) but still be able to open with the actuator pressure?
thanks
