Scars remind us that the past is real.

Re: buying used pistons

lol scaring on the skirts. Make sure you ask how lean they ran the motor to get it that way. Guarntee pistons are out of shape. Seen two sets of pistons both cp pistons scaring on skirts had about 1mm of slap. 1 set was in h22 ran 30psi with enough fuel to run 10psi.

don't do it.. just keep searching classifieds.. I got my set of wiseco pistons for $200 brand new in the box from classifieds

Re: buying used pistons

I would run free pistons with scarring to the skirts IF and ONLY IF the ring lands weren't slopped the ---- out.

Re: buying used pistons

Double posting just to make sure you understand I said FREE pistons, and you need to understand it's an engine I'd run at the streetraces to make money, not care if or expect it to last 1000 miles.

Re: buying used pistons

Ya they ran hot from being lean.

Smith-02 01-23-2009 02:36 AM

Re: buying used pistons

i thought they ran cool when they ran lean? you know, less fuel to burn = less flame amount :D

The skirts on my ---- were alls cored so i sanded em with 1billion grit and turned up the boost. 2 years later no issues.

TorganFM 01-29-2009 07:19 PM

Re: buying used pistons

My machinist told me not to buff or sand because that just removes material and makes clearances more loosebutt and that the grooves won't damage the walls.

you might be able to have the skirts knurled

No.

You got them for free, right?

marcj 02-09-2009 10:59 PM

Re: buying used pistons

run them you sissy! as long as they aren't ATE THE ---- UP and the ring lands are good you should be fine.

b20beast83 02-10-2009 12:51 AM

Re: buying used pistons

got em for 70 bux shipped no rings

Tom-Guy 02-10-2009 12:53 AM

Re: buying used pistons

You got ripped.

You shouldn't have given a dime for them even if the pin bores weren't completely fucked.

You were told all of this, did you not listen?

b20beast83 02-10-2009 01:02 AM

Re: buying used pistons

i bought them before
and asked about the consequences.

the pistons look really new, and i cant feel any wear with my fingernails on the skirts.

should i just sell them

Tom-Guy 02-10-2009 01:07 AM

Re: buying used pistons

You are asking us if you should rip off someone else? :S

Re: buying used pistons

put them on ebay and let people bid. just say unknown condition as is.
that's kind of accurate since you don't know if they will work or not

I hate fucks with the ebay mentality that do that ----, 'I learned these parts are junk but if I say unknown as is condition my morality will let me knowingly rip someone off'

Look man, there are two people in this thread that have vouched for used pistons with scars working fine on boosted engines. He doesn't know if they would work or not, which is OBVIOUSLY why he made this thread, therefore the condition of them is UNKNOWN. Let the buyer take the chance and save some money on a build if it works.

I do agree with you on some level though. If you blow oil out of a turbo and put it on ebay without any description and say AS IS for 100 bucks you're really dicking someone over.

It has binding pins. That is not scarring to the skirts which "I would run if the ring lands aren't slopped out and the pistons were free."

Ask PhilStubbs how his used pistons with binding pins is working out for him right now.

ohh, so if the pins don't easily install, then the pistons wont articulate freely about the axis? I get it now. :1

Tom-Guy 02-10-2009 12:34 PM

Re: buying used pistons

Where it binds, it wears. The aluminum galls and smears around, the wrist pin knocks, the whole area gets hot and siezes and fails just like the rod bearing area.

even getting mixed feedback enough to make someone unknowing/inexperienced to shy away but only list as simply 'unknown condition' without sharing the mixed feedback irritates me. But you're probably right my bitterness comes from 'unknown condition' arriving in obviously defiled state. I got a set of free rods off the last fucker that did that though.

and $25 wasn't it?

Re: buying used pistons

ok so the place where the pins slide in had some burrs, thats why they were not floating

some 1500 grit fixed it
