Default BOV

Hi everyone.
I'm new to this whole turbo deal, and i have a question.
this may sound stupid.. but a turbo has an internal wastegate... do you really need a BOV? if not.. what are the advantages of running one?

Thanks for your replies

Justin

You dont need a blow off valve, especially if you are running low boost. They are nice to have, because at highly boost levels the pressure in the charge pipes need to bleed off and go somewhere, and when you let off the gas (shut the throttle plate) the pressure begins to go back towards the turbo compressor and try to spin in backwards (compressor surge)

Comrpessor surge sounds like complete ***, and you can hear it ever so slightly on each setup (without blow off valve)

Plus using a blow off valve makes a very nice clean "woosh" sound. that gets peoples attention, (lots of people like this) I think it can be annoying at times.

BOV's are cheap, you can use a cheap bosch plastic one for 20 bucks, or spend 2-300 bucks on a large tial/turbonetics one.

Some people like to place duck calls / deer calls on the BOV vent. I will try it myself soon.

ill invent the "dog bark bov" or the "cat meow bov"
you just wait, and when you are walking outside and a car flys by and you hear a dog bark as it drives by but there is no dog in sight you will understand.
