boosted! pics

I will be putting my turbo kit on tomarow, I have a garrett t3 ar 42 internal wastegate, obx mani. dsm bov, fiatlancia fmic, vafc, dsm 450cc walbo 255 lph, b&m fpr, msd 6a ign.& coil, n1 catback,OBX CAT. 2.5 dp missing link, turbo timer, adjustable cam gear, and lot more useless ---- on a. B16A, SIR2,ported and polished head, block guard aready installed, sucks! how many psi will be safe daily driving, and how much racing, the car is already fast without turbo, especially on the autobahn, will turbo affect my engine at topspeed? will it be dangerous to drive past 120mph? I also undefeated, so turbo will just put me out of anyones range, the only car that beated me so far is a v12 750i bmw. long post...[ftp][/ftp]

Re:boosting tomarow

power and boost will start to drop off around 6500 on that 43. All it will do above that is make heat.

rudebwoy 08-05-2003 12:45 PM

Re:boosting tomarow

so you are saying that I will lose power at the higher end? or will I go back to normal? this car as such a quick responce at high speed I wouln't want to lose it especially being in Germany, I will run for a while I not satistfied I will go NA.

88crxSi 08-05-2003 02:19 PM

Re:boosting tomarow

not actual NA power but boost will drop off at higher RPM.

you willl spool SUPER quick though.

a 60/63 T3 would spool a little later but keep boosting uuntil redline

JustacivicSi 08-05-2003 07:10 PM

Re:boosting tomarow

that turbo is gonna hurt your cars top end also.. after 6500 it is gonna be blowing super hot air into the motor..making you lose more HP then u had N/A.Since the car is breathing wayyyyyy hotter air then it ever would N/A.

rudebwoy 08-06-2003 01:51 AM

Re:boosting tomarow

how hard is it to make a high brid turbo? the army tanks here have some nice turbos, garrett with ar 70, shape like t3 but bigger prolly t4. how hard would it be to use the compressor of one of those?

stop!

Re:boosting tomarow

tank turbo is too big.

As per mr Jeff Frank, large diesel engines use average size compressor turbines like 63 or 70 around there but REALLY large exhaust turbines (lke 1" +)

Re:boosting tomarow

I don;t think you will have too much of a problem, a lot of people forget to change their math for intercoolers. I have a 14b which is a little smaller than your turbo and it pulls all the way up to ~8500 or so. I think you have a good match. If you want to increase your power down the road then I would definitely get a bigger turbo. but for up to 250 at the wheels your fine.

Post pics when you get done.

Re:boosting tomarow

I did not get to finish today because forgot my oil fittings, and resister box, and I will need help posting final pics, but my most detailed pics are taken with a picture camera, pics of the head being ported/polished,block guard, downpipe being made, and a lot more, because I did all the work myself, I did not have a camera person, but I aint getting any sleep tonight cant wait, till step two, tuning!

good luck dude ;DThinking of the autobahn makes me tingilly!

JustacivicSi 08-06-2003 05:41 PM

Re:boosting tomarow

haha pretty much every country road here in Texas is like the autobahn.

Re:boosting tomarow

you dont need that missing link if you have a safc and 450cc injectors.

also you dont really need the walbo 255 lph and b&m fpr unless your goin over 12psi.

otherwise it sounds like a good setup, good luck man!

rudebwoy 08-07-2003 10:41 AM

boosted

I ran the car today and have a few problems, I only boosted 2 psi, and I am leaking oil like crazy from the return flange, its prolly stripped, but also when I get to 5k rpm the car esitate bog bog bog, the car starts and run with the 450cc, and resistor box, but bad idle sometimes.

88crxSi 08-07-2003 11:42 AM

Re:boosted!

whats your settings for idle and 1k?

rudebwoy 08-07-2003 03:22 PM

Re:boosted!

I just set everything at -38% and it runs great, boosted to 5 psi, but! but, I smoke like a chimney, seems like blown seals, HOW long does it normally take to stop if this is normal?

tranceminister 08-07-2003 03:28 PM

Re:boosted!

-38 sounds pretty rich for idle. Maybe the smoke is just your engine running rich... Rich is black smoke and there can be lots of it. Blueish smoke is oil.

Upgrade fuel pump? Also, what color smoke?

rudebwoy 08-08-2003 03:53 AM

Re:boosted!

everything is upgraded, walbro 255lph, dsm 450cc injector/resistor box, vafc, fpr,zex cold plugs, msd ign& coil. the smoke is white, and smells like rubber, synthetic oil burning, when I smoke its like a smoker out of a 4 inch pipe, but everything else feels good

88crxSi 08-08-2003 06:41 AM

Re:boosted!

needle valve on the oil inlet?

your smoke is causedd by one of these.

- Oil psi too high at inlet
- oil return too small/restricted
- Turbo Seals blown

also, could be more then just 1 of those.

rudebwoy 08-08-2003 07:22 AM

Re:boosted!

wouldn't a needle valve make more pressure?, and is there a temporary fix for a blown seal, until I get a new turbo?

88crxSi 08-08-2003 07:34 AM

Re:boosted!

I dont know how the needle valves works but people have been using them to lower psi. I think because it restricts the amount of oil that goes by maybe not the psi.

I just think that the psi isnt too high its the amount of oil thats too high.

rudebwoy 08-08-2003 08:02 AM

Re:boosted!

its really bad but I will try a smaller fitting, thanks! do have a turbo for sale?

88crxSi 08-08-2003 08:29 AM

Re:boosted!

sorry, no turbo here.

ask some1 what their needle valve is...

any pics of the oil return?

rudebwoy 08-08-2003 11:54 AM

Re:boosted!

the return is a little bigger than 3/4 inch,I can fit my thum in and wiggle around, the pics can I send then to you so you can post them?

Re:boosted!

Your car is too clean.

Just to verify, you did ditch the missing link? And are you monitoring EGTs or O2 voltage under boost?

rudebwoy 08-09-2003 03:01 AM

Re:boosted!

I did not use the missing link, and I have a/f guage, and the turbo timer has o2 voltage monitor, but the highest boost level I see is 5 psi, can I raise the boost level by just adding a manual boost controller on an internal wastegate? I still smoke bad, have you ever seen the smoker tank that the army use to hide? imagine that on the streets.

88crxSi 08-09-2003 06:40 AM

Re:boosted! pics

ok..

the worst case scenario you have blown seals. But try the cheap things first like a needle valve and make sure u used teflon tape on the return flange.

Is the smoke coming out of the tail pipe or off the turbo too. any oil dripping? did u use any sort of gasket on the oil return flange? u said it might have stripped threads, ,did u use teflon tape?

rudebwoy 08-09-2003 08:03 AM

Re:boosted! pics

I fixed the flange leak, but the line I am using was not design for hot oil its for toilets, steel braided but delicate, and ends I have to put o rings in, still leaks, I plan to change it but Germany sucks when its time to find parts, I cant even find a needle falve or any type of fitting, in the hardware stores.I put a air compressor fitting on that has a filter in it,and reduce the smoke but it smoke at idle but its better than before. but can I raise the boost level on that stock wastegate with a mbc?, I either getting inaccurate reading at the boost guage, something but I hear the bov at 1 psi.

Will www.mcmaster.com ship it to you?

rudebwoy 08-10-2003 05:03 AM

Re:boosted! pics

I dont know but I think I may get that return line off ebay, see if someone on this site will sell me a needle valve, I one thing though even though its not perfect this thing is quick, kicking ass in Germany.

ZexRex 08-10-2003 05:33 AM

Re:boosted! pics

what is the connection on that turbo for the oil line. i mean what is the thread that screws into the turbo?

89dxhunchback 08-10-2003 06:34 AM

Re:boosted! pics

Yes, you can use a MBC to lower/raise the boost, but your turbo should have anjustable wastegate arm on it. Your notice the wastegate arm is threaded, pull the wastegate arm off the turbine housing, and then you should be able to twist the part of the wastegate arm that IS NOT threaded. It will make the arm either longer or shorter. Longer = less boost
Shorter = more boost
If the wastegate arm isn't threaded, then you'll have to get a MBC.

rudebwoy 08-10-2003 08:40 AM

Re:boosted! pics

the oil feed line hole, is 3/8 I think, its a t3 turbo the line is a kit I bought, made by earls, the ruturn is 3/4 homemade need replaced... the wastegate is adjusted all the way, I figured its at 7psi, but my intercooler is ghetto, I probably lose 2psi so I read 5psi, I want to know if the mbc will raise it.

tranceminister 08-10-2003 08:48 AM

Re:boosted! pics

Yeah a manual boost controler will raise your boost psi. Boost controlers don't lower the boost.
