Default Boost problems

I just finished my turbo kit for my 87 CRX Si. Its a D16a1 (89 Integra) engine with a IHI RHB5. I have a DSM intercooler. I currentley have no fuel managment as I was only planning 4-5 psi at the moment.

This is my forst problem. I took the car for a ride and the boost builds up to 11 psi past 5000rpm. I know this is bad, and I have made the wastegate arm adjustable, but it doesnt seem to help. I read somewhere here you can use a spring instead of the wastegat, is this true?
Next problem, the car smokes liek crazy. It runs real rich and will not idle. I had to remove my aquarium check valves because with them the car woudlnt even start. With the check valves removed, the car runs fine when cold but once its driven a certain time (10 mins) it will just die when asked to idle. I am not sure if my O2 sensor is good.

BTW, the many times it hit 7+psi it didnt detonate once, not a ping. I am running 91 octane fuel.

100 feet.
Update: I disconnected the wastegate completley and the boost still climbs to 8psi in 4th gear. 1st and 2nd it nudges 5psi. Full boost comes on at 4000rpm.

I need an FMU!
But, I disconnected the temp sender unit and plugged in another one and left it hangin in the engine bay. the car runs rich and no ping. lots of black smoke.
but up to 4000rpm, it makes an all motor growl, then boost kicks in at 4000. I thought boost was suposed to kick uin at like 2200 with this turbo?
I am also using a Bosch BOV. and I tried sucking on the vacuum hose that goes on the top, and no pressure, i can breathe right through it. My other bov, a 1g dsm, you cannot suck on the vacuum hose.

The only thing that I can tell you for sure is that the check valves were in incorrectly...They DO NOT go in-line with the MAP. Here is how it goes....

|
check valve -----> ===
vacuum line=========--|--========

It needs to bee te'ed off of the line so when there is pressure in it, it vents to the air...

Don't you get a check engine light? You should be getting one boosting with no check valve(s) Get the check valves in there and then start looking for what else is wrong. YOU NEED FUEL management, you will KILL that poor motor the way you have it, I think you have just been lucky so far because the computer is in limp mode and running as ritch as it can.....

Ok thanks.
Now about the wastegate. Does anyone have any idea why it could be boosting so much, even with the wastegate fully opne? its a 2 1/4" downpipe.
