in a bind! help
i need all you homeade artists to put your heads together and find a solution for me.
right now i am running a TEO4H mitsu turbo and its kinda leakin oil a bit, but nothing serious, anyway, i just bought this T03 garrett turbo for 100$ freshly rebuilt and it is the same bolt pattern as the exhaust inlet and downpipe flanges on my old setup, so it would be just a boltup install. NOT
there is a stock downpipe piece attached to the turbo, and the turbo i have right now came with the same thing, only i threw it away and made a custom flange and downpipe.
but the problem is this:
this new turbo has the wastegate flapper on the downpipe housing rather than the actual turbo housing.
now how can i go about making this work?
btw, this TO3 turbo i bought is biggar and better suited for my setup, needless to say its fresh!
i really wanna use this new turbo, but i need to find a way to rig up a flapper so that i can use my custom downpipe.
this is what the T03 looks like, notices how the flapper is on the downpipe piece.
if at any cost i would like to stay away from getting an external gate.

Re:in a bind! help
The old cast wouldnt be ideal to use but if you had to it wouldnt work well in the first place
oh btw dan im in the process of puttin a Teo4h on my d16a1. How did it work for your setup besides the oil problem. Im guessing it spooled real quick but ran out of steam in the upper rpms. Im getting an adapter plate machined now.

Re:in a bind! help
the teo is a pretty good turbo, but its incrediby small, and the ports are highly restrictive which creates high levels of backpressure.
the max psi i got out of it was 11-12psi
thats with the wastegate totally shut.
and the reason it only goes to that is because the backpressure forced the wastegate flapper to let by some exahsut gasses at 11-12psi.
good luck, im upgrading to the garrett version because its about twise the size and less restrictive.

Re:in a bind! help
if it has the same flange bolt it up and drill out the flange by the wg, if not buy a flange and weld it to the dp.. you can have the wg dump into the engine bay and not worry about routing it back into the exhaust.
