Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

well i wanna actually keep the motor in so i dont have to do another swap and all that, so all ur saying is i can keep evetything else in there, and just change the pistons? and get bigger injectors right? and run hondata/uberdata?
and the person whom i got the motor off, just listed all that ---- in the engine. i dont kno for sure they are all in the engine. but i think it runs a bit quicker thanstock b16a's. but yeah i justt need to confirm that i can just swap out pistons and go for lower compressions like 9 or 10s? and keep everything else? even tho its made for NA.
thanx for replies
Jay

Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

yes you can just swap out the pistons to lower the comp ratio, but you will need to hone the cylinder walls and use new rings ;)

"but you will need to hone the cylinder walls and use new rings?"

whut do u mean by "hone"? sorry new at this stuff thanx for the input. yeah if all is needed is to change pistons/maybe bigger injectors/chip ecu then this is defenatly a summer project. problem is theres no place here to tune it... i think the closest place is a 1h-1h45 min drive:S... u think its driveable once i get the turbo in to go up there or not?

Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

this may not be the best thing to try if this is your first major project :-\...it will involve removing the cams, head, and then the rods and pistons. Then you will use a hone (buy one at a parts store) which will clean up the bores so the rings will seat. then you will have to gap the new rings and install it all back together with the new pistons (which will most likely need to be pressed on at a machine shop, someone correct me ive never changed stock pistons)

Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

well no, im probably gunna work on this with my dad, he knows a lil on engines and done some engine work, just not turbo. i didnt kno u had to bring ur pistons to shop and let them do some stuff on it in order to install them? i thot i can just buy some pistions and replace my JE ones?

Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

ahh ---- i didnt realize it had aftermarket pistons, i thought it was just some combo of a milled head and ctr pistons or some ----, im not up on the whole NA piston thing...im assuming then that it has aftermarket rods and floating wrist pins, in which case you will be able to do it all yourself. Serves me right for reading threads too fast :P

Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

hes just saying the wrist pins will need to be pressed in and out to change the pistons on the rod, its not to expensive at your local machine shop 10-15 buck range for them all probably

you just dont wanna try yourself whats cheaper busting a skirt and only having 1 good piston and being forced to find only 1 piston (good luck doing that) or pay a few bucks

ill pay a few bucks every time espically since i even know professional mechanics that say they bust the piston 9/10 times trying to do this themselves

The wrist pins on stock Honda rods are pressed in , If you buy a set of aftermarket pistons they
will have floating pins witch you can install yourself. Steve

Re:b16a or b18c1 turbo?

ok so basically its not a good idea to install pistions at home and just goto a shop to install them? will this setup be safe for a daily drive car? im not planning on runnin high psi. 1-7? not sure. maybe go up after i get used to everything and everythings sucessfull.

but this is the plan. first:
part out a turbo setup
change pistons
up injectors
install turbo
chip ecu
tune
thats abot it? for my engine right?
probably not gunna drive it untill all parts are in.

wut kinda maintance is required? i heard someone spending 10k just on maintanance....??thats one reason why i dont really wanna go thru with this lol. and just keep NA. or is it just the regular oil changes?

Re:b16a turbo?

who the hell told you it cost 10k for maintenance? With 10k I could build a bullet proof block with fully built head. Dont buy that BS.

You still have a lot to learn before you decide to start buying things. PM if you have any particular questions about your setup. I think you have the general idea. Just keep your eyes open and see what others are doing.
