if the spring is weak it will keep you from boosting much, even if it is unhooked. If you have a 7 psi spring and only boost 6 psi with shims in there, i would think the spring is fucked, go get a new one with a higher psi rating

good idea. i will try the spring this weekend and let you guys no how it went.. i am hoping to get a digi camera for christmas. then i can post pics of both my turbo projects..
