Default Audi External Wastegates

Hello All,

I tried doing a search on this, but all that it produced was the tutorial on how to adjust the spring on them (which is now bookmarked!). So sorry if this has already been covered:

What year range did the Audi's come with external WG's? I went to an Audi/VW only junkyard, and asked them for the external wastegate off a late 80's or so Audi 5000 and they told me they dont seperate the WG's from the turbos. When I explained that I wasnt looking for the internal WG, but the external one, they told me it doesnt exsist!

Are the external wastegates still somehow mounted to the turbo or are they on the manifold? Anyone have any pics of where these WG's are located on the car?

it is near the firewall. im telling you its an absolute bitch to get off..

i had to take the whole exhaust piece with mine then grind the bolts off cause they were rusted.

good luck. its got a grey top cap easy to spot.

Well the only place I have even found any audi's at is this audi/vw only boneyard. They dont let you back in the yard, so I am going to have to explain to them where it is cause they dont seem to have a clue about it.

You said its near the firewall.. what is it mounted to? Is the manifold on the rear of the motor, and the WG is mounted to that?
