Another Homemade t3/t4 hybrid. Will it work? (pics)
Ok, i have a turbonetics gen. 3 T3 turbo. Looks to be a .46 and exh side is .63. And i have a garrett airresearch t3/t4 monster (Looks to be same specs as a GT30 w/o ball bearings.), that is way too big for my setup.
I am wondering if i could take the exh side of my turbonetics and bolt it to the garrett intake side with no problems. Im hoping for better spool. the garrett wouldnt spool on my stock b18b untill 4k and could never hit max boost. the garrett shows .50a/r in and .84 out with a split exh side.
So would this work and would it be worth it? cause i know i cant get anything close to my money back with the garrett lol

Well not sure if it will work, it should but i dont wanna kill a decent turbo. gonna just clean out the turbonetics and see how it goes.
If anyone has any input on thsi hybrid feel free to speak up

dude dont kill the garret :P
drop in a bigger engine!!!!!! cmon you know you want a 6 cyclinder car
0.84 exhust side is huge!
i run a 0.68 on my 3800cc v6 (buick LN3) and it spools nicely at 2000-2800rpm soo id hate to see a turbo that big on such a small stock engine!
i still think if you did some work you might beable to get it spooling earlier ie cam shaft or something like that maybe if its auto a stall converter..
but i think its a bad idea to kill the garret! chances are the power increases wont be that great

So what exactly is wrong with the turbonetics? Just too small for what you want? What's the a/r size on the t3, and have you actually tried matching the map from it to your motor? The .63 a/r exhaust housing is a great size for a b18, but I don't know if you'd really see any benefits from running a compressor that large, especially if it's going to be at low boost. Low boost on a large compressor generally produces more heat than higher boost on a smaller compressor. Bigger is not always better, unless you have a completely built motor and want to run donkin high boost numbers out of that t4 compressor.

Nah its not too small, but its been ran 15k miles and its dirty inside. I was gonna tear down the garrett and avoid a rebuild and get a better turbo out of my 2 i got here. But i cleaned out the turbonetics today, it actuallys spins freely again lol, and im gonna run it for another week or 2 till i can get a rebuild kit. I think a generic t3 rebuild will work. This turbonetics seems to be just a re-branded AirResearch.
The garrett is just massive for a stock LS. If i threw a vtec head on it and some pistons and rods i know i could run it, but thats money i just dont have
Thanks for the replies fellas.
