The reliability all depends on how much power you want to make. Supposedly d series rods can only reach the 220hp mark. If you have a nice setup with good fuel management you'll be fine. the less money you spend in the beginning will mean the car will probably require more upkeep. Buy all the good ---- at first to avoid the nickle and diming of a cheap kit

This is good advice.

The most important thing is to not be afraid to blow the hell out of a few engines. You have to figure out for yourself what you can make a d-series put up with. Avoiding detonation is absolutely the most important thing because with your factory computer controlling most of the functions, you won't overrev to the point of failure. I find that only by blowing stuff up do you really find out what needs to be made stronger for the kind of power that's enough for you. Spend more money on management, find one that's the most adjustable so you aren't stuck with a car that has to be driven at 100% to run good and so you can compensate easily for upgrades.

ibby: Since it sounds like you want boost and you drive a lot, I recommend you just stay at about 5-6 psi. You can set up cheap fuel management with that low of boost (missing link and FMU) and it's not a dangerous amount of psi for the D16 by any stretch of the imagination. The best of both worlds.

The size of the turbo you choose to go with is going to be a huge factor here, especially on those 200 mile days. Are you mostly on the highway in the 4000-6000 RPM range? If so then a small T25 would be a bad idea because that means you're driving around in full boost for extended periods of time. That's putting a lot of wear and tear on your motor. If you choose a larger turbo, one that doesn't reach full boost until like 5K or so, that would probably be better for you.

Just my 2 cents. I hope that helps

Cranks are the strongest part of the Honda motor. They're good to 600hp.
