my corolla came stock with the LSD and i took that thing out and put in a TRD 2 way.
well those arent good for daily drivers so i found a rebuild kit for $150 and now im
going to be putting the stock one back after a rebuild.

can you link the rebuild kit so we can see how the stockers function.

and yeah, those cusco/kaaz diffs suck ***** period if you ask me. oem (if a little modded) is often the way to make the best solution. if i was going to spend dollars on an aftermarket one, it would be a torsen of some sort. quaife or an american one i guess. having said that, there are torsens available for many axles anyway...

Thing is, the tiny *** gay 6.7" stock diff will explode and take the fancy trd kaas cusco two way with it. The quife and other helical diffs are really only good for road course racing. The inside wheel lifts cause of our 20 year old rear suspension and then it just spins. I have a 25 year old lsd in my car and it locks up better and harder than my freinds brand new helical. When I autox i watch him drive and just laugh at the inside wheel spinning and making his helica lsd useless.

Go clutchpack or go home, another thing is that the stock diff wont take to turbo torque for very long, which is why i run a 7.5". Another diff you can consider is a suzuki samurai or mk1 2 escort i think.

You could also get a older supra rearend and have the spring mounts and link mount setup in the correct location. When I had my 86 I installed a TRD 2 way LSD and damn that thing was nasty and whined. In the rain it was scary as it was my daily driver. I just got it cause it was dirt cheap and basically brand new and already mounted in the 3rd member setup from Toysport for 350 shipped. I sold the car cause it took me awhile to find that let alone a stock diff and matching axles. Yeah you can get the nonlsd axles and cut a little bit off the end of the shaft but all in all. After 3 months of just normal driving and no hard launching. The rear end started to sound like when the open diff blew apart clunking and some grindage noises. I said ---- that. Got offered 3k for a car I only paid 500 for and dump about 1500 into it and was happy to see it gone. The rearend reminded me of DSM trannies. Good for everyday driving but toss in a stiffer clutch and start getting happy with it and time to start stock piling up on parts.

maybe on an autoX course, but not on a real track with a balance car. you only need a tiny bit of traction for it to not free wheel like that, and unless you are in first gear (a place you wont be on a real track) you wont spin a tyre feathering the throttle across a corner while pulling a solid G, and as soon as you start to straighten up, you wont spin one because the inside one will be at least partly down again. i prefer clutch also, as its more fun, but on a circuit, its not faster. perhaps there was a problem with your friends torsen? or perhaps its because he was trying to corner really hard and accelerate at the same time? still. torsens are great :-)

toyota pickup = hilux. the name never stuck in the us market, so they didn't use it.

they are also fun drifting, doing donuts, and just driving really fast on the street through corners. there are very few circumstances when they are not optimal, but as you point out, they do exist. torsen >>>>>>>>>>>> viscous any day anyway.
