the exhaust on that is stock and pretty quiet. the plenum and trumpets are sitting in the driveway at home. no arguing, that is an awesome sound.

the only nicer sounding engines have A more cylinders, and B more wild cams. C poor exhaust manifold design. very poor. v8/subby/log 6cyl poor.

v12 + itbs = ultimate sounding engine at say 8k :-)

cool projects. i have a mate building an ae85 into a silvertopped 20v ae86 rally car/street rocket. hes got a 16v setup that hes going to build for boost later too. hes using the hilux diff/lsd in his. i think its a good choice. 8" and super strong/reliable.

Basicly any and every 4cyl with ITBs or a big plenum/short-runner intake mani and decent cam sounds the same. If you poke around HT in welding section, the ITB Neon sounds the same as that corolla vid.

i didnt say others werent as nice :-) its just cam profile, rpm, runner length etc dependent... i've heard my engine sounding very similar, but not at 8k, and not with the vvt kicked in as it doesnt have that. hence, not quite the same exhaust back pulse rasp to it on the fe3.

The LSD was optional, and very unlikely to be installed. As many as we have owned, I have had only one with LSD, and it was an aftermarket unit installed. I do wish that it was standard on the car, but even in those days you'd get raped in the *** over floor mats, so getting lucky enough to stumble upon a factory LSD is far fetched.

And to add to that, oe is only a 1 way LSD. Chances are unless it's been rebuilt within the last 60,000k it's probably more like a .5way lsd

For the price of the rebuild kit+ 250 bux you can get a brand new powerbrute 2 way ( they use them in dwarf cars) which is the same as a zenki TRD 2 way from all accounts i hear.

i had a oem lsd (which is odd cause in Canada, they weren't even optional), it worked ok.. but not as good as my TRD 2 way I have now

i was gunna say, the stock lsd is pretty shitty. the way to go if you are staying live axle is hilux lsd as its dead strong, and can be stiffened to provide a good deal of 2 wheel driveness. heres one i welded up :

Most ppl on this board dont know what a hilux is.

For everyone else, think 2wd v6 pickup/4runner axle.

true, sorry, 4runner is the name used in the US or A isnt it. this is the truck anyway :

the last two are most common at home other than the white ute/flatdeck commercial ones. the white one is a 4runner as you get.

Im using a 7.5" mk1 supra diff, which is the same pretty much as teh mk2 and hilux diffs. Are there any lsds for this diff that are more than 1 way where you live? Or better yet some sort of rebuild kit u can show me?

afaik they just throw an extra clutch pack at them for extra lock up. i also thought that they were just a purely preload lsd. not 1, 1.5, or 2 way, but just constant. the mazda 8" i have in mine (came stock in it, but now has extra clutch packs too) is effectively a 2way unit. as in on drive or trailing the camming action of the spider gears into the free to move side gears pushes outward on the clutch packs and locks it up further. the toyota doesnt do that, but does have more clutch packs than the mazda one and a slightly stronger more durable design. i'll let you know if i have trouble with mine, but i doubt it. what is the internal design of the unit you have? and the stock ae86 unit? the only reason i know about the 'lux diff is that the same shop shimmed it up for my mate at the same time that they shimmed mine up. (bastards stole my spare clutch packs too!!)
