per Bone, no reshimming of the mainshaft, therefore it's pretty damn easy. a slide hammer is recommended by honda, but i afro engineered a bearing puller and it worked

you ever had a tranny split before? if not, have fun with that couner shaft snap ring

and the dealership ordered the wrong bearing, so i said i want my money back and i'm going to use majestic honda as soon as i figure out what shim i need for the diff. True Value nor Lowes carry spring washers. MSC here I come (if its cheaper than that guy on the above link). Can't wait to pay more for shipping than the parts costs.

so yea, SHCS M8x1.25 40mm prices:

Lowes: $.80
True Value: $.70
MSC: $.205 (ordered a 100 count for $20.50)

Also dial calipered out the spring washers and have them comming from MSC. Unfourtnatley they are on back order. It's not a huge deal, I'm leaving Friday for the Atlanta Nascar race weekend. I plan on making a few 'kits' for the OBX unit like the guy above me did, only cheaper. I'll have it all documented here. Didn't get around to reinstalling the diff and seeing what shim I need, but it will be done tomorrow to get those parts on the way here. Anyone need some small ---- from Majestic that they don't want to pay a butt load in shipping for? Let me know and I'll help out.

Did you read that 1st link?

Note that some FWD diffs are now coming with 5 washers. My washers are the same overall height as the OBX washers so they can be stacked )()(). The overall goal with the washers is that they get ~.8-1.5mm of preload. The bolts are a 1.25mm pitch so you can tell the preload based on the number of turns on the bolts.

Yea, I saw that. Unfourtnatley the spring washers I ordered from MSC are on back order. I'm going to give them a call in a bit and see if they can light a fire under it. I need these by early next week.

I will be playing with different combinations of the springs to see where it sits and what not compared to the stocker. I plan on having the case a little wider than stock before it tightens down, then have it the same size as stock when tightened to specs and there's a preload on the washers. I don't really want to use the origonal obx washers unless I absolutely have to.

Need some help, nogs

Differential snap ring is too big now that the OBX is buttoned up and installed. I'll post the details of the install later, I just need some help with this part. With the stock snap ring of 0.06" (1.5 mm), the clutch housing won't mate flush with the transmission housing. Without the snap ring installed, it is only 0.013" (0.33 mm) from the differential bearing to the transmission housing. Now, I'm looking in my Honda service manual and it has a listing for the snap ring to bearing clearance (with the snap ring installed) as "Side Clearance: 0.10 mm (0.03937 in)".

So who spotted the problem in the quote? 0.03937" x 25.4 = 1.0 mm, not 0.10. I'm guessing the clearance should be less than 0.10 mm since they have parts nubmers for snap rings in 0.10 mm increments, starting with 1.0 mm and increasing.

Assuming that the above is correct, the next problem is my differential bearing to transmission housing clearance without the snap ring is smaller than the smallest snap ring that Honda sells. I'm thinking of just saying forget the snap ring all together since its only three times the Honda specification. I'll hvae to take a look around real quick to see if I can find a snap ring the right size. Guess this is where the B series oil control ring came in a while back?
