I would say use ls rods and b16? pistons. Cheap, easy to find. Spend the money on management and machine work. IMO

ok so what about the a6 bottom makes it the best d series bottom? and are you 100% that the si harness will work as long as i have the ecu, i thought it would too, but i have heard diferent. and will the ls rods fit and hold upwards of 15 psi? whats better about the b16 pistons, opposed to stock. thanx alot for the help.

no, a little while back there was a guy on H-T who was selling B16 rods, machined to fit in a D series, and 1JZ supra pistons (which fit) which caused some confusion about B rotating assemblies in D motors. IMO you can get NEW better rods/pistons for not too much more. but to each his own.

actually the a20a rods are the same as the ls b18 and the d16 i beilive. call eagle to confirm. the diffrence is in the big end width.

a20a rods is
19mm wrist pin

ls rod is 21mm wrist pin

d anything is 19mm wrist pins i belive they are the same lenght. a20a rods are very stout for factor rods.

the a20a rods will need to be machine down however to fit in the d16 crank journal. im not sure how much contact eagle.

either way there no big deal there. id you need or want pistons let me know i can get custom forged peices for $475 with tool steel wrist pins and rings.

ok so does anyone know what makes the a6 bottom end the best of the d-series for boost? and would it be safe to boost 15 on a rebuilt a6,or z6, with shot peened rods and a thicker headgasket? i might post the block as well, if i see that it would be worth it.

15psi with that turbo shouldn't be a problem as long as you get a good tune. I'm assuming you will be using an AFC? Maybe a wideband? What sort of pistons will you be using for the rebuild? Stock?

, and get the crank micro polished and it should hold up.

why the hell would micropolishing the crank have to do with the motor being able to hold high boost?

If I was gonna build it cheap. I would you the z6, then a6, than a y8. That would be my order, but I can't give you a good reason why.

yo doc, you said with that turbo, did you mean set-up? i want to use stock pistons and shot peened rods, will that work? i would rather use the afc hack, if its safe with that much boost. i guess it would be smart to get a wideband o2, how much do they run, usually?
