12 second Ford Tarus *PICS* No 56K

Well here's the Ford Tarus SHO that I've been talking about. This is the new setup we have on the car. This is my buddy's car he is truely has the attitude "I don't give a ---- what it looks like as long as its fast.

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SHO%20pics/SHO3.jpg

The car doesn't look fast at all, you can't even see the front mount on it so its the best sleeper around. Nobody expects this thing to be fast and we usually kick the ---- out of the competition with it.

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SH.../SHOturbo4.jpg

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SH.../SHOturbo2.jpg

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SH.../SHOturbo1.jpg

The turbo is a T04E with a v-band discharge exhaust. Its running a full 4 inch downpipe with 4 inch exhaust. We don't buy mandrel bend but instead we make them by cutting the pipes at angles and welding them together. The air filter is right near the tire running through the fender, there was no room to fit it under the hood.

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SH...HOtimeslip.jpg

This is the timeslip from the OLD setup with a grand national turbo running 11psi. Notice the Really low mph for a heavy ass car? Yeah he lifted after the 1000ft mark and coasted across the line and STILL managed to do a 12.7. With this T04E its 100 times faster than the old setup so we're definitely aiming for an 11 second run and its very possible if everything holds together

**UPDATE** This setup just ran a 12.5 @ 112 on street tires. We only got 2 runs in cause of bad weather. Going to the track next weekend to try again.

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SH...cs/SHOdoor.jpg

My camera got fucked up so I couldn't get too many pictures but this gives you an idea of the type of weight reduction we did to the car. A couple cases of beer and a plasma cutter did wonders. The rear window is full lexan

http://www.draglab.com/hmt/Whitey/SH...cs/SHOaxle.jpg

This is the axle after last night's street races. The people at National Auto are a little pissed that they gave us a lifetime warranty on axles.

Well now here's the mod list:

-3.2L V6 DOHC Yamaha motor, stock bottom end
-TO4E turbo 1.32 turbine with a split tangential housing and V-bad discharge, .70 compressor
-4 inch custom cat back exhaust
-Ported and polished heads, 5 angle valve job and custom ground race cams
-Quaife LSD
-6 puck unsprung clutch
-Remapped ecu, AFC, 50lb/hr injectors, walboro fuel pump
-upgraded MAF (forget what size)
-NOS direct port (its off the car now, we melted way too much ---- ------- around with it. When we get pistons it'll go back on)

Well now all you non-believers can go pound sand ;D In less than a month the track will be open and I can update with the newest time. Any questions or comments just ask...

Whitey,

It is GREAT to see more people fooling around with FI on the SHO. Until a fellow www.superhighoutput.com forum member posted a link to this thread, I was only aware of one (yes, as in UNO) running turbo SHO. Many are in the works, but really, who knows how many will actually run right ;D Are you familiar with the term SHOBOOM? :D

I hope you can take the time to register and start posting at a few SHO specific forums:

I am a moderator at http://www.superhighoutput.com/ forums,
and a member at http://www.shoforum.com/ forums.

I am sure a LOT of people will be interested in your sweet sweet ride 8)

later~

This SHO has always been my greatest competition. When we started racing all motor 5 years ago we were neck and neck. his SHO vs. my GSR he was at a 15.123 and I was running a 15.122. The competition was that close. Than I gave up on my GSR to start other projects and now he's probably in the 11's easily so now I'm dragging behind.

I seen on that website that they were criticizing the welds, well we were pretty ------- drunk when we did the intercooler piping so if we grinded them down they would have looked nicer. Than again, who gives a ----

This thread made me realize that I am involved with some fucked up projects :-\

No ----. I was going to mention something about those welds, but ---- it. Like you said, the guy doesn't give a ---- how bad it looks as long as it's fast. Well, he's got it. Can't complain too much. :-\

The pipes are getting heat wrapped anyways so that was even more of a reason not to care, plus his welder fights you like crazy

Hey, your friend needs to put up a tutorial for this thing. There are many SHO owners who would like to do this (including me) to their SHOs but dont have the know-how to do it themselves.

Here's a writeup of how to do the same thing:

1. Buy a turbo, intercooler, BOV, and Wastegate
2. Build custom headers and chargepipes
3. Add fuel
4. Now your done.

There is way too much custom work involved with this kit for us to spend the time and do a step by step instruction manual on how to duplicate this kit. Plus, what fun is it to copy somebody else's work.

HOWEVER:: We are selling the ORIGINAL turbo kit for this car that ran the 12.7. Its a complete kit minus the fuel upgrades (We'll tell you where you need to buy them). PM me if your interested.

STOCK SHOs surprise a lot of people ;D

BTW, Whitey, what kind of tuning has gone into this setup? What engine management? Any dynographs?

I want to believe what you say is true, but like I said before... anyone can build a turbo SHO. Making it run without blowing it up is a different story. 8)

WTF do you mean you want to believe its true? This is the setup and these are the numbers, what else do you want me to show? Obviously its tuned because its running 12's and we're at the street races in Philly every weekend. The only thing we're blowing apart is the driveline. Its also a 200,000 mile shortblock in the car now. This car has been running a turbo for 3 years so we're not amatures at this game. If you think I'm full of ---- we'll be more than happy to meet you in Philly or Maple Gove in a couple weeks and don't forget your ------- checkbook.

BTW if anybody can build a turbo SHO post pics of yours and don't forget the timeslip.

Re:12 second Ford Tarus *PICS* No 56K

Very nice, a bit crude looking, but heck, its running.

Get your buddy to post on www.shoforum.com

Have you upgraded anything else on the car, or did you just slap on a turbo. Is the transmission beefed at all? and have you stripped your 3rd gear? Quaffe? If no LSD, how are you able to run 12 s, seems you would light a tire easily.

We have a turbo SHO owner on our forum who has put over 10k into the car in extraneous mods (brakes shocks tranny etc).

Do you have HP numbers off the thing? 500whp maybe? And you said no bottom-end work on the 200k motor. Watch out for the rod-bearings.

Well... looks good regardless, come out to the SHO-club annual convention, www.shoclub.com .

:thumbs up:

It has a quaife and yeah we blew out 3rd last weekend racing a Supra. Its got alot of ---- done to it, brakes rotors, camber and caster plates, SS lines, full coilover suspension. We have 3 blocks for it this one is temporary while we're trying to get pistons for the other. Over the 3 years of boost we melted about 8 pistons but that was mainly cause of just ------- around with the 120 shot of nitrous on top of the boost. Since it only takes 4 hours to rebuild it we really didn't care.

It seems like Wiseco is the only company that makes pistons for this car. Do you know of anybody else and a price?

Sorry, missed the Quafe in the list. So no HP ratings? how did you tune it w/o a dyno?

Do you know the curb weight? and any pictures of the interior stripped? I am really intrested in your setup.

Reddy 02-22-2004 10:53 PM

Re:12 second Ford Tarus *PICS* No 56K

The car was dynoed a little bit ago, I forget the exact numbers but I know it was under 400WHP non intercooled and under 450WHP with the intercooler at low boost settings. I don't know the curbweight, its gutted but its still a pig. I'll get more pics this weekend comming up I have too much work during the week to do anything.

I'll try to get the owner of the car to answer question cause he knows this car inside and out, I just started this thread cause I needed to backup all my street racing stories so people wouldn't think I'm full of ----.

As the ex owner of a 91 running nitrous, put it back on.The problem is you ran just a bit too much,if it were toned down to 100(or even safer,80),you could run with no problems, assuming you`re a bit rich already because of the turbo.Dry kits and direct prot are fine,of course due to the runners, wet kits don`t ever work.
With pistons,JE is the largest supplier for the SHO,Ross has also made a few sets(around $800),which run a bit cheaper.
I`ve ridden in the other turbo SHO owned by Tim Tyner down in Oklahoma(Built by Speedcraft when owned by Jeremy Prine). That thing is a beast, and hit a 13.1 years ago before Tim made MANY improvements.Have you seen the recent vids of it running on the street?

Turbo SHO PWNS JOO!! Dude thats one sweet setup, you DEFINITLY need to tell your friend to post on shoforum.com for we now have 2 confirmed turbo SHO's running around. Well minus the at least 3 Turbo SHO sand buggies (yes sand buggies). Thats an amazing setup.

Man, projects I'm apart of really do get -----d all over the internet ;D. I never knew an SHO was that popular of a car. :-\.

The nitrous is NOT going back on the car for a while...the turbo alone is enough to blow the motor apart. The nitrous also causes the boost to raise like a ----------er and right now, nitrous is not necessary. I've seen that vid of the other turbo SHO and its pretty interesting.

Remember the kit thats on the car now has NOT seen any track time yet. The 12 second kit is for sale so PM me if you want to be the 3rd turbo SHO and drive a 12 second car ;).
